USB C on iPhone 15 not working

I bought my iPhone 15 a couple of weeks ago, I am able to use the genuine apple charger to charge my phone, but when I stay over at my bf s house and use his third party usb c charging chords it doesn’t work. I tried like 3 third party chords and nothing worked. I updated to the newest iOS, I also turned my phone off, factory reset, nothing worked. It feels like my phone is the only one with this problem—am I doomed to be stuck with genuine iPhone chargers ?? Anyway to fix this issue?

I’m having a charging issue as well, but i’m using the cord that came inside the apple iphone box. When plugged in, my phone will repeatedly make the visual and audible symbol for unplugging and plugging it in as if it can’t hold a solid connection with the charger. Super annoying to hear while trying to sleep. I’m not really sure what I’m supposed to do.

Same.

I have just jotted my experience too down in the comments. Want to know if you are facing the same as well?

I am facing a similar issue, its been probably a month since I have bought iphone 15 but almost on the second week itself the type c charger stopped working, i flipped it up and down, plugged it to a different port also but the wire did not work. I ended up visiting the apple store and service centre where I got no definite answer because as soon as I was there the wire was working fine. Although there wasnt any technical person to check it at the service centre, the personnel there only checked it on a basic level where it was working fine. Today after 2 weeks it stopped working again 😣 and later started but it has lost its capability of charging fast. I am not sure if its a charging problem or a bug?

I have just taken delivery of my new lazyboy electric recliner sofa complete with usbc charging port which now gives me 3 additional charge points and saves me wrestling with my kids for charging plugs. The corded charge cable apple provide with the iPhone 15 is usbc -usbc . I am unable to charge my phone from my sofa usbc port . Can you tell me how much output you need to supply enough power to charge iPhone 15 . I tried every sofa in scs and none of them charge my phone . Any info or help would be greatly appreciated.

Charge and connect with the USB-C connector on your iPhone 15 - Apple Support

They don't come out and say what the requirements are for

  • Charging using 5V power, or
  • Charging using USB-C Power Delivery power

It does appear that the phone supports USB-C Power Delivery (in some fashion), and that to fast-charge it, you need a 20W or higher-wattage adapter. I'm guessing that the USB-C Charge cable that came with the phone is the same 60W 1-meter cable that Apple sells separately in the store. They do not say explicitly that it supports UISB-C Power Delivery, but I'm pretty sure that it must. If it didn't, it probably wouldn't work very well with Mac notebooks that charge over USB-C, and there already would have been lots of complaints.

So my working assumption is that the cable can carry 15W of 5V power, or 60W of USB-C PD power. You could contact Apple to ask them to provide more complete information – but I don't know if the first-line tech support people will have more information (or will fully understand the question).

What does your recliner manual say (if anything) about the types of power that your sofa provides?

you are spot on. looks like Apple wants to charge devices such as iPhones with their costly cables and chargers/adapters/converters. The whole world is currently struggling to get over USB-A to B to C converters and this time with cables and adapters too. Same is the case with me too. All of sudden my and my wife's iPhones either stopped charging or connects/disconnects too frequently when any thing (adapter, A-C converter, cable) is non-apple. This was not an issue earlier though.

After more testing, I found that in my case, only when using the PD USB-C port with 30W output, the iphone 15 pro max can only charge up to 80% even though I don't have the "limit to 80%" charging setting. It does charge very fast, same as stated on apple.com, 35 minutes from 1% to 50%, 1 hour to 80%. With 20W or below, it can charge up to 100% without issue. However, the same charging port has no problem charging ipad pro 12.9" M2 to 100%. So I think there may be bugs in IOS 17.0.3 given there are some known limitations/issues on the battery protection settings.

In case of cable, not just usb, but hdmi, displayport etc., quality does matter. Many cables don't really comply with industry standards. I have been using quality 3.1 gen 1 and 3.1 gen 2 cables(Done tests by myself using data transfer over NVME SSDs) from all sorts of 3rd party brands without issues as long as the data transfer speed is fast and consistent. Consistent high data transfer speed is a true indicator of the cable quality.

So the charging issues that apple fixed was for third party chargers and since I had only apple chargers I didn’t think to try 3rd party chargers. I just bought an Anker charger which has both USB-A and USB-C ports and using the USB-C port works. So third party chargers work but not apple chargers? The Anker was a set and both chargers work just fine on both my iPad and my iPhone.

There is a VERY SIMPLE fix. I was also surprised that my month-old iPhone developed this problem. Apparently the Type C connector picks up dirt and dust more easily from your pocket than the old lightning plug.

To clean it out sharpen a toothpick, or something soft, and scrape out the dirt. You can also use a needle or pin but be careful as you can damage the connection inside. WORKS like a charm! I am so relieved I don't need a trip to the Apple store
