USB C on iPhone 15 not working

I bought my iPhone 15 a couple of weeks ago, I am able to use the genuine apple charger to charge my phone, but when I stay over at my bf s house and use his third party usb c charging chords it doesn’t work. I tried like 3 third party chords and nothing worked. I updated to the newest iOS, I also turned my phone off, factory reset, nothing worked. It feels like my phone is the only one with this problem—am I doomed to be stuck with genuine iPhone chargers ?? Anyway to fix this issue?

I’m having a charging issue as well, but i’m using the cord that came inside the apple iphone box. When plugged in, my phone will repeatedly make the visual and audible symbol for unplugging and plugging it in as if it can’t hold a solid connection with the charger. Super annoying to hear while trying to sleep. I’m not really sure what I’m supposed to do.

Recently my iPhone 15 Pro has been having this same problem. People saying certain chargers arent supported makes no sense because if I insert a 3rd party magnet charging puck in between the iPhone 15 Pro and the charging cable that "doesnt work", the phone will then charge when connected magnetically but not when plugged in directly to the same cable wtf.

This nails it. This is my experience too. I bought an Anker charger that has both USB-C and USB-A ports on it. It comes with a USB-C cable. For some reason that works to charge, although sometimes it won’t when I first plug it in and then I rotate it and it works. Which of course in USB-C it shouldn’t matter which way you plug it in. This is all so bizarre.

What worked for me was:

Unlock your iPhone. Press

Volume up

Volume down

(not at the same time but shortly after each other)

Immediately hold power button until the Appel logo appears and let it restart.

That's it.

There are YT videos that show you how to press the buttons.

And it worked for me. No more charging issues.

And by the way: This issue has nothing to do with uncertified cables or charger. Thats a myth. My wife and me both have the same iPhone 15. All my cables and charges worked for me but not for my wife. Now all our cables and chargers work for both of us.

I have the same problem with Iphone 15 Pro Max. I have 3 different 30W Apple chargers and the 2 of the short cables that came with the phone + 2 pcs. 2 meters original Apple cables, and the problem is the same:

It charges, beeps, stops charging, and starts charging again. This happens every one or two minutes.

I have tried to clean the USB-C socket but it didn´t work.

When I use the old Apple travel chargers it works fine, but its really slow.

Come on Apple....Get this fixed

I have a 15 Pro that’s several months old. I am able to charge with many cords including usb-a to usb-c and usb-c to usb-c. But, I recently purchased an iHome alarm clock that has 2 charging ports on the back; usb-a and usb-c, both are 5w. The usb-a port works fine but the usb-c port did not charge my iPhone. I exchanged it thinking the port was bad. The second clock’s usb-c port would not charge my phone either. I contacted iHome customer service and was told this was a problem with iPhone 15. They said any other phone including other iPhones work just fine with that usb-c port, just not the 15. So what the heck, why would that be happening? After finding this thread I did a force reboot but the port on that clock still doesn’t charge my phone.

My wife's phone 15 stopped charging via usb-c, but magsafe was still charging. Tried 2 different power supplies and 4 different cables (original apple as well). After power off / power on it started charging, but percentage of battery were decreased (before reboot 28%, after reboot 22%). I think the issue is internal battery capacity and power regulation script. Hopefully apple is willing to solve such kind issues..

Since my original post and an electrician highlighted it’s the power control software on the iPhone that is limiting the power it’s drawing, I have since bought a MagSafe charger and connected that to the same USB-C sockets and it works fine.

So the problem seems isolated only to USB-C to USB-C connection. (All of which work fine on any non Apple device, but no longer work on iPhone 15, iPad, and HomePod.)

Going to try going back to Apple again to see if they have any more insight why.

(Also, re the reboot… The reboot worked for me, but only for that charge. Next time it was charged/turned off and on again, it went back to not charging on USB-C to USB-C again.)

I am into same group 😅😅😅 In home only two cables work with the phone. In car magsafe works, the no name cable for the mag safe charger works and my old no name cable with magnetic connector also works. This is ridiculous is fault with phone. This is my first apple phone and why the USA stopped google for Huawei. I could never change them. But now we all will waiting for apple updates and possible fix on this problem.

Not true, I am typing this from my OnePlus, a far superior phone to this garbage pro max I have, I just bought a cheap cable from a dollar store and it is charging my pro max after doing a hard reset, whereas prior to trying this in desperation, my certified Anker cable didn't work, yet that cable works just fine for my high speed charging on my OnePlus and POS Samsung. It's the phone/Apple garbage.

I have just taken delivery of my new lazyboy electric recliner sofa complete with usbc charging port which now gives me 3 additional charge points and saves me wrestling with my kids for charging plugs. The corded charge cable apple provide with the iPhone 15 is usbc -usbc . I am unable to charge my phone from my sofa usbc port . Can you tell me how much output you need to supply enough power to charge iPhone 15 . I tried every sofa in scs and none of them charge my phone . Any info or help would be greatly appreciated.

Same thing here. Official Apple usb-c works fine, third party ones do not, or work intermittently. I’m unable to use 5W charge overnight, because sometimes it will stop at 50-55%. Some cables won’t work at all (I’ve tried good quality ones, like samsung or xiaomi but no sign of life at all). Seems like the problem is with usb-c to usb-a cables.

Isn’t usb-c supposed to work with EVERY cable, like other phones do?

Looks like the old days with MFI

USB-C has two types of power: traditional 5V power, and Power Delivery power.

I believe that all USB-C cables are supposed to be able to carry 3A of 5V power, for a total of 15W. (USB 2.0 and 3.0 host ports support up to 0.5A and 0.9A of 5V power, respectively.)

USB-C Power Delivery involves negotiation between both sides. In addition, you must use a USB-C cable which has embedded chips indicating that it supports Power Delivery. I believe the chips probably provide information as to exactly how much power the cable can safely carry. So it is a three-way negotiation involving the devices, and the cable. If the cable isn't PD-certified, the devices shouldn't turn on USB-C PD power.

Better not to turn on power, than to send up to 100W (original USB-C PD) or up to 240W (current version) over a bottom-of-the-line, no-name charging cable.
