Disable BlueTooth Music AutoPlay when connecting headphones (do not tell me how to in car, please)

This looks like an ongoing problem for many, with weirdly no apparent solution. How do I stop music from autoplaying on my iPhone and iPad when I connect my Bluetooth headphones? I am not asking about my car system.

THERE IS NO AUTOPLAY icon. No matter what I do, delete/reinstall, restart phone, There is shuffle and repeat. I'm not the only one with this issue. As noted by another user here: How do you stop Apple Music from automati… - Apple Community with screenshot.

I have an iPhone 12, I'm using plug in headphones from my old iPhone 7. When I plug them in to make a call, music auto starts and I cannot figure out how to disable it. Turning off bluetooth doesn't solve the problem because I'M NOT BLUETOOTHED TO MY HEADPHONES.

Hi msieger89,

Without knowing what headphones you're using or what app is automatically playing music, you may find this information from Change the settings for your Powerbeats Pro helpful:

"Turn Auto Play on or off

By default, your Powerbeats Pro sense when they're in your ear and receive the audio from your device. Powerbeats Pro also pause and resume playback when you remove one of your earbuds, or stop playback—and won't resume—when you remove both. When you have Auto Play on and you're not wearing your earbuds, audio plays through your device's speakers.

When you turn off Auto Play, all audio plays to your Powerbeats Pro whether or not you're wearing them.

Here's how to turn Auto Play on or off:

  1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth on your iOS device.
  2. In the list of devices, tap the blue information icon  next to your Powerbeats Pro.
  3. Tap the slider next to Automatic Ear Detection."

Regards.

Hey Msieger89,

We are unsure if this issue occurs while using the Music app analog with Apple Music. If that's the case, you may want to verify if AutoPlay is enabled, using these steps:

"Let Autoplay pick what plays next

Autoplay takes the work out of choosing what to play next. Just play a song, then Autoplay finds similar songs and plays them afterward.

To see your Autoplay queue:

  1. Tap the song that's playing at the bottom of your screen.
  2. In the lower-right corner of your screen, tap Playing Next the Playing Next icon.
  3. Scroll down to Autoplay.

To turn Autoplay on or off, tap the Autoplay button the Autoplay button icon in the upper-right corner of your screen. If you turn off Autoplay on one of your devices, then Autoplay is turned off on any device that's signed in with your Apple ID."

You can find more details here: Add music to your queue to play next on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Android device
