Where is Double Tap on my Watch Ultra 2?

I've got a brand new, fully up-to-date iPhone 15 Pro Max and a brand new, fully up-to-date Apple Watch Ultra 2. I've read three article showing me how to enable 'Double Tap' via Settings > Gestures on either the Watch Settings app or settings in the Watch app on phone. Except there is no Gestures menu item.

Any clues? I'm hoping this isn't going to be as disappointing as the "US-only" (why?) voicemail transcribe which was the only other new compelling feature for me this release...

Thanks

I have it on my Ultra 2. Go to Settings/Accessibility on your watch. You have to have Assistive Touch off to use Double Tap. It’s one or the other. I believe a lot of watches have Assistive Touch but the Ultra 2 and Apple Watch 9 have Double Tap. They are two separate things.

@SimonSaysBoo The Gestures menu is available in watchOS 10.1. You can get it now (06 Oct 2023) by joining the public beta. It is open to anyone who is willing to run beta software. I don't know when the general release will be, but it is likely very close.

And I went through the same pain of combing Apple documentation trying to find the Gestures option. The support team appears to be ahead of the release team and they posted their knowledge base article too soon.

How disappointing.

Does anyone know if/when the other interesting feature might be allowed out of the USA?

I expect the finger tap gesture will be allowed out of development as soon as the programmers and testers finish their work. This is not a restricted regional feature, it will be worldwide (anywhere the relevant Apple Watch models are available).

Simple explanation. The VM transcription function requires software and hardware support from the cellular networks. When it was launched only a few US networks had made the commitment.

I’ve been researching this myself and learned the answer. At this point double tap is a marketing scam on the part of Apple. They made a big deal of it at the introduction, and they make a big deal out of it and everything you see advertising the watch, even the brochure that comes with the watch… But it’s not available yet. I’m taking mine back tonight. This is one of the main reasons I bought it and in a hurry. I was perfectly happily with my series 8 very disappointed in Apple.

Maybe I’m missing something here but I’ve been using double tap since my Apple Watch Ultra 2 came two weeks ago day one.. I do live in the US so I’m not sure if that makes a difference.

its under accessibility > quick actions

or for more in depth functionality it’s under accessibility > assistive touch.

I am not running beta software but Watch OS 10.0.2

Yes, that version of double tap and other gestures have been available for quite some time. The version of Double Tap that will arrive with Watch OS 10.1 is somewhat different in operation.

the last thing I expect Apple to do is to expect their consumers to read the press release. Hahaha what a disappointment. Where is the trust and seamless experience where we believe Apple will deliver to its customers? From these comments, it clearly shows that their marketing has failed and deliver the wrong promise to the customers. Also, using double tab feature is nothing close to seamless, just painful. I am still an Apple fan but trust me that I have to think otherwise for the next Apple product. Innovation has died.

So you routinely spend close to a thousand dollars without doing research? Must be nice to have money to throw around like that. You could also have watched the recording of the event, checked out one of the hundreds of articles written about the release.

That's entirely your affair. No one particpating in this forum has any vested interest in what products you buy. You should always buy the tool that best meets your needs.
