iPhone 15 Pro Can’t Scan lottery tickets yet my iPhone 8 can

The camera takes excellent photos but cannot scan lottery bar codes but at the same time & lighting, my iPhone 8 doesn’t have any issues scanning these

What could be the problem with my iPhone 15 pro?

iPhone 6, iOS 11

I came here to find solution to the IPhone 15 pro not scanning in the California Lottery App. I was changing options in the camera settings. When I changed ProRAW & Resolution control to on, I could suddenly scan consistently and get results. I turned it off to confirm that this was the problem, but now it scans for me. If someone can try this and confirm I would appreciate it.

I'm having the same problem. Moved from iPhone 8+ to iPhone 15 Pro Max. The image doesn't focus in the CA Lottery app when I try to scan the barcode on the new phones. It remains slightly fuzzy. I'm guessing it has something to do with the macro lens incompatibility with the app. I can't use the two-finger zoom option on my app. I called the apps technical support and was told to "Google it"...

We're not talking about RQ codes, we're talking about lottery bar scanners. Do you guys read what people say? I was on the phone with another issue with 5 senor techs. and not one of them could figure out what I was trying to do. You're phones lack list view options in the photos app and among many other things.

I'm having the same issue as the OP. I emailed CA lottery, but they

said check online, it's a known issue. If the pull the camera far away from the

ticket, sometimes I can get it to scan at a split second. I had an Android, never

had an issue.

On a side note. Coming from an Android, I think iPhones are

way over rated and overpriced like everything else they make. They don't make

the hardware, they use the same stuff as in PCs and they mark everything up

800%. I only got an iPhone because my friends were complaining that they couldn't

do things in a group text while I was in there with the Android. That's not

Androids fault. Apple chooses to deviate from transfer messaging standards.

Androids can do EVERYTHING an iphone can do, face time you name it. But because

90% of Americans use iPhones, I have no choice but to be compatible and use

these strange phones. Androids are simple, you simply drag and drop files onto

the phone, or in folders YOU make and they show up on the phone like you made

them. They don't rename videos files like iPhone's worthless photos app, they don't make you use sync

software to get files on the phone, and they don't complain about file formats. That play and display

anything. Don't understand why the America is drinking the Apple cool aid. I’m

ditching this iPhone 15 pro and going back to the droid when I’m ready to upgrade. Not the mention Andrids are open source.

Apparently it started happening with the iPhone 14 Pro Max. There are a lot of reviews regarding the same problem since the 14 came out. Quite a few videos on you tube for various state and national lottery apps. All videos are recommending the exact same steps. None worked for me. I'm hoping someone comes up with a work around. Not all the lottery apps have the ability to do the two-finger zoom and they don't appear inclined to update their apps to work with the newer phones.

Same problem using an iPhone 13. Problem is the app is trying to use the ultra wide camera by default, so you have to hold the camera far too close to the ticket to make the bar code large enough to scan, by which time the image is blurry. Can’t seem to figure out how to get the app to use the right camera. It used to work so I assume it’s an issue with the latest version of iOS and BCLC needs to fix the issue on their end.

I was moving the phone back and forth trying to find the sweet spot without any luck. But it seems I have found it. It started working (most of the time) yesterday for me. I still get error messages about 25% of the time, but I kept trying and I got it for all but two scans for scratchers and draw tickets. The app hasn't updated so I'm not sure what's changed. Seeing that other people were experiencing the same thing convinced me to stop checking manually and be persistent with the app.

I would like to send a shout-out to the CA Lottery customer service team...Thanks for nothing!

I use the Illinois lottery scanner I went from a Xpromax to 15 pro max I used to turn scanner on move tickets close to fill scanner window then it would scan. I called Apple because it wasn’t working like this they said it was app responsibility to work with new phone (QR was working with phone) . You can use two fingers on camera to zoom in and out so tried this with scanner in lottery app and this worked. Feel kinda stupid for not trying this first but always moved ticket closer before to scan QR . I hope this helps and saves Apple some work answering dumb questions like mine : )

Hi there,

To help us better assist you, can you let us know more about the situation? For example, are you trying to scan a QR code? Do you receive a specific error message? That information will help us proceed.

If you're trying to scan a QR code, please check out this link to ensure the correct process is being used: Scan a QR code with your iPhone camera

Scan a QR code with your iPhone camera
You can use Camera  or the Code Scanner to scan Quick Response (QR) codes for links to websites, apps, coupons, tickets, and more. The camera automatically detects and highlights a QR code.

Use the camera to read a QR code

1. Open Camera, then position iPhone so that the code appears on the screen.
2. Tap the notification that appears on the screen to go to the relevant website or app.

Open the Code Scanner from Control Center

1. Go to Settings  > Control Center, then tap the Insert button next to Code Scanner.
2. Open Control Center, tap the Code Scanner, then position iPhone so that the code appears on the screen.
3. To add more light, tap the flashlight to turn it on.

Thanks!

It is not about opening camera and taking a picture of QR. The issue is that when we use apps for tracking calories and we need to scan bar codes the iPhone doesn’t even show anything, it’s trying to scan black screen instead of seeing the food box in front of camera. O tried with other apps than needed to scan something through that app, and is the same issue.
