iPhone 15 Pro Max black screen

My phone has gone black while charging the last two nights. It will ring, sounds can be heard but the screen will not wake up. Had to press/release the volume up & down button then the on button to turn it back on. The phone works fine all during the day. What’s causing this?!?

Happening to me too! I just got my 15 pro max phone a little over a week ago. I’m on vacation in New Orleans…woke up this morning after using my apple mag safe charger overnight to a black screen!! Woke up my husband after trying everything to figure it out. His 15 (not pro max) was on his Apple MagSafe charger all night and his is fine! We could feel the vibrations on my phone so knew it was on but the screen was pitch black. I ended up doing a reset using the volume up, down and holding power button til it reset and came back on. When is this being fixed?? When we get back home, do I need to go to an Apple Store and exchange this phone now?! Ugghhh. So frustrating.

I had this exact same issue happen to me just now a few minutes ago which led me here. Once my screen started randomly working again I searched this issue up because this is the second time this happened to me since I traded in my iPhone 12 Pro for the iPhone 15 pro max during thanksgiving week. I had to use my Apple Watch to text my boyfriend and friends for help because it’s too early for Apple support. Luckily my screen randomly started working, but I tried pressing the volume buttons and holding down the side button and nothing happened. It was so frustrating and I was freaking out because I have a doctor appointment at 10am with a specialist, so I needed my directions to know how to get there and it’s currently 4:48am as I am typing this. They really need to fix this issue because this day and age we really rely on our phones for many things. It honestly made my Apple Watch glitch a little when I first went into it to try calling Apple support from the watch, but then the Apple Watch settled and started working. It was just so weird.

Thank you lauchainia for the volume tip! I just received my phone a month ago after waiting 2 months on back order and this has happened a few times already, plus on the internet as well. The internet I figured out with the privacy tab on the bottom next to the regular tabs I use, but I never touched it. I woke up like it & did an update. It's like every time there's an update, there's an issue with this phone & it's past the 30 days for me to just give it back to them bcz I'm so tired of all of this! I waited to do an upgrade so everyone else could & had the oldest phone (iphone 11pro max so I didn't even qualify for the $1k trade in bcz "it was too old", which it was still in perfect condition & my nieces just both bought the basic iphone 11 so it's still wanted by ppl!) & have been a customer for 28 years! But this one is driving me crazy and idk why 'I' should be the one always having to 'fix' it!

APPLE NEEDS TO STEP UP THEIR GAME & FIX THESE GLITCHES!

(I used to always upgrade when new iphones came out before these 3 yr contracts started & now they're so different by the time that you get to & idk if they were ready for this launch since I have never had so many problems in such a short time span?!? I'll switch to Google or Samsung and learn their operating systems if Apple can't get it together!

I’ve had my iPhone Pro15 for two months and charge at night on a MagSafe charger. This morning my alarm went off but the screen would not illuminate. I did not know about the volume up, down, and right power button to reset. Asked Siri to adjust brightness to maximum. Which Siri said occurred but still a black screen. Had to use the volume down + right power button simultaneously and then guess where the power off slide was at the bottom of the screen I couldn’t see. Concerned this may happen again based on these comments. Has anyone had to replace their phone for this reoccurring?

It happened to me twice. It only happens overnight when I use the MagSafe charger branded by Apple. I hear my phone ringing, the screen is black, and I don’t know where to press. I had my wife called me from her phone, and after a few seconds of pressing buttons, the screen we will flicker on. Apple, it’s time to fix this problem. I have an eye iPhone 14 pro max.

Just had it happen for the first time this morning. I could hear it making other sounds and notifications coming in, but the screen was completely black. Went to the Apple Support page for advice. It took several times pushing the volume buttons and side button. I've had my 15 Pro Max since the first week of Oct. Definitely going to make an appt. I take care of my 91 yr old dad and have to have a functioning phone. As much as these phones cost, this is a ridiculous issue to have to deal with.

This just happened to me. I woke up to my 7-month old crying (he's teething) and I wondered what time it was on this first day of 2024, but my phone appeared dead! Of course immediately I thought we all had been hacked and our phones were all dead. But then fiddling with the buttons I accidentally called 911 so I knew it was working. I had to tell the dispacher in a very sleepy and confused voice that I was trying to get my phone to work but I couldn't see the screen and he would have to disconnect the call. Thankfully, (unlike another user here who had an angry operator not understanding the issue) he was very understanding and hung up for me. I got my computer and had to google the hard reset.... got stuck on this string looking how to do so and reading all the comments (quick volume up, quick volume down, hold power botton until apple logo appears), and now it's back. SO ANNOYING. Happy New Year.

It happened to me for the second time this morning at about 2 AM. it always happens around that time. I pressed volume up volume down quickly and then press on the right button for more than 30 seconds and nothing happened.. so I did the whole thing again and pressed the right button for 40s 50 seconds. Nothing happened.. did it again this time I held the right side button for over one minute before the Apple logo came back on.. i’ll be going on a trip on Sunday and I am not comfortable about this. I plan to bring my iPhone X with me just in case this happens and I will buy a Sim card when I get to my destination in case I need to use it on the iPhone X.

Apple, if you are reading this - this is completely unacceptable!! we pay almost $1600 for this brand new phone in Canada and we should not have to put up with this!!

This happened to me also. In context, the night before my iPhone 15 pro was fine. All I did was charge it for the night. when I woke up the next morning I tried to get on my phone but the screen was pitch black.

I was confused and I thought I forgot to plug in the charger into the wall. But, I took a screen shot and received notifications. I knew that the phone wasn't dead. I went online onto how to force restart the phone. That didn't work.

I later called apple support to see what I can do and they made an appointment for me the next day. So, I carried my plans of the day using my old android phone. when I come to check on it in my room the iPhone 15 pro seemed perfectly fine.

I'm still gonna go into that appointment I made to make sure nothing is really messed up about my iPhone 15 pro. This is my first iPhone in a really long time and so far I remember why I switched to android.

My iPhone 15 Pro Max had the same (Black screen) issue after charging overnight. This was the first time I left the phone charging on my office charger all night. Usually, it is charged by my bed. This was super annoying as I got up early to get some work done and found the solution 30 minutes later. If you tap the VOLUME UP key and then tap the VOLUME down key, next hold the button on the right side for 10 seconds or until the Apple logo appears it will fix the problem. BTW, when I was trying to get to forums to find the problem, I was asked for a verification code, luckily I plugged in a new iPad yesterday so it came up there. What if I didn't have another Apple device and could not get the verification code as my phone had this black screen?

Apple, I have been a fan since the Macs with green screens first came out. Fix this problem. You are better than this. You make my life easier, not harder.

Me too. Brand new iPhone 15 Pro Max. After the first night I had it home and charing on an Apple Mag Safe charger the phone wouldn't wake up, although my alarms went off.

The up volume - down volume - hold power sequence worked to restart for me but it's kind of annoying that after spending so much a problem like this happens on a new phone.

The iPhone Xs Max I replaced with this new phone never had this issue - I had that phone for years.
