iPhone 15 Pro Max black screen

I’ve just had this issue occur on my new iPhone 15 Pro Max as well last night whilst I was working night shift. (Few weeks old, Optimised Battery turned on)

My iPhone was sitting on my desk charging (genuine Apple cable & adaptor), it was locked when it vibrated, the screen lit up for less than a second then the screen turned completely black. I only saw it happen out of the corner of my eye as I was focused on something else. I could feel the phone was vibrating and clearly still on, fiddling with it accidentally activated Emergency Services which I couldn’t cancel (which is a whole different tale in itself). I’d taken it off charge and it still didn’t work. I googled the issue and found this forum as the first link which is mildly concerning. I’m glad the hard reset worked, but that is incredibly annoying for a brand new device.

I hope this isn’t a faulty iPhone..

This happened to me after U charged it overnight with a portable charger. When I woke up, it was black but I could hear the haptic engine. If this happens, just press the volume up, and down quickly, the the power button until you see the apple logo. Hope this helps.

My iPhone 15 Pro Max just had the black screen of death. Fully charged. Luckily I had laptop and went online and figured out the "volume up, volume down, hold down the power button for 40 seconds" fix. The phone restarted. Apple you need to fix this bug. I paid a lot of $$$$ for this phone.

My 15PM always charges with the Apple MagSafe charger, which lies flat on my desk. So my issue, at least, doesn't have anything to do with charging the phone in a vertical position. Nevertheless, the screen was black this morning. I had to try volume ^v then side button til the Apple logo showed up. Had to try it twice.

Note to all: Control a black screen phone with Voice Control. Say "Siri, turn on Voice Control." Use voice commands to make a phone call.

I disabled that rise and wake, whatever it’s called and haven’t had this issue since. Although, it’s only happened to me once so we’ll see if that’s the culprit.

Use force restart - up, down then hold the on button. Lots of postings here describe this in detail.

You can set an automation upon charging, to automatically turn OFF - “Always on display” then when disconnecting from charger, to turn ON - Always on Display. That will make your life easier.

Try to tell Siri to restart the phone

I am having this exact same issue. This unresponsive blacked out screen only happens when I wake up in the morning and I take it off my wireless charger. It takes a minute or two for the screen to show up. Any updates on an update that will resolve this issue?

Me too. I recently purchased my iPhone 15 Pro, and today I encountered the same issue. The screen is unresponsive and remains black after charging but, the phone is working fine. I've always used the original charger and cable from Apple. It's been just a week since I bought the phone. Hope this issue will be fixed soon.

it happened to me this morning as well after charging with MagSafe, and since the screen went black and the way to force restart changed, I couldn’t restart my iPhone at all. I was on my way to work and have no access to other electronic devices to search and check.

Happening to me too! I just got my 15 pro max phone a little over a week ago. I’m on vacation in New Orleans…woke up this morning after using my apple mag safe charger overnight to a black screen!! Woke up my husband after trying everything to figure it out. His 15 (not pro max) was on his Apple MagSafe charger all night and his is fine! We could feel the vibrations on my phone so knew it was on but the screen was pitch black. I ended up doing a reset using the volume up, down and holding power button til it reset and came back on. When is this being fixed?? When we get back home, do I need to go to an Apple Store and exchange this phone now?! Ugghhh. So frustrating.

Hi. This just happened to me too for the first time with my 15 pro max. I’ve been using the apple charging cable and plug bought from apple. The phone was fine when I did a quick charge before going out last night but when I woke up the screen was entirely black, but I heard it do a screenshot sound. My other half found the hard reset set up, did that and it’s back on now, but it’s not helpful having to do that. I hope there is an update soon to rectify this issue.

This is so annoying…I just got my IPhone 15 Pro Max maybe 4-5ish days ago definitely not even a week ago and this has happened for the first time tonight…I am nervous that it will happen again. Should I take it in?! I don’t want to be stuck with a faulty phone. It’s working now after being taken off of the charger. If this happens again I’ll be taking it in. So annoying being that this a is a brand new phone.
