iPhone 15 Pro Max black screen

My phone has gone black while charging the last two nights. It will ring, sounds can be heard but the screen will not wake up. Had to press/release the volume up & down button then the on button to turn it back on. The phone works fine all during the day. What’s causing this?!?

Happening to me too! I just got my 15 pro max phone a little over a week ago. I’m on vacation in New Orleans…woke up this morning after using my apple mag safe charger overnight to a black screen!! Woke up my husband after trying everything to figure it out. His 15 (not pro max) was on his Apple MagSafe charger all night and his is fine! We could feel the vibrations on my phone so knew it was on but the screen was pitch black. I ended up doing a reset using the volume up, down and holding power button til it reset and came back on. When is this being fixed?? When we get back home, do I need to go to an Apple Store and exchange this phone now?! Ugghhh. So frustrating.

I am also dealing with the same issue. In my case, I tried pressing all the buttons (volume up/down, power, or the new action button), but nothing work for me. I think the issue might be related to the Standby feature since both the occurrences of issue happened at night. The first time it happened, not sure how the display came back on. On the second occurrence, I just put the phone away and it came back on in the morning by itself. This has to be fixed.

This has happened too with my iPhone 15 Pro Max past two nights. Ive had the phone a month, no updates since 17.1.1 came out few weeks ago. Its Nov 25, 2023 It's been on 17.1.1 IOS past weeks, no issue till morning before last. Both nights the cat woke me up early, when I tapped the screen for some light it remained black. I was in do not disturb time. One thing that was different was previously to two days ago under 17.1.1 I had put the phone face down with wireless charging, the past two night I sat in normal reclining position face up in the cradle. Reason being the display light being on bothered me on earlier versions of IOS. Both times these las two mornings phone acted like expect but totally black screen. This morning I plugged the phone into my U2723 dell monitor unplugging the monitor from my MacBook USB port as it was a handy powered usb port. To my surprise the iPhone screen popped up on the dell monitor. However it would not show the unmark to log in and it stated the Face ID needed my pass code. literally on a black screen I tried to find where my passcode numbers were on the screen, on my dell monitor I would see I had mistyped till it timed me out. Note,About 15-30 minutes earlier I had tried to reboot the phone, prior to this attempt my Dell monitor. Now when on my Dell monitor I saw the phone had locked out password attempts for a minute, I walked away, when I came back couple minutes later, the screen was back normal.

The previous night I got up with it the iPhone screen blank, I had tried rebooting but it took like 15-30 minutes for the phone to return to normal operation .

So in my case seems it has something to do with phone not being face down while in do not disturb mode. Rebooting takes 15-30 minutes to clear the issue with absolutely no sign its doing anything. Clues to what the IOS displays on a USB monitor gives a clue to where the software bug is at.

Update… After having this happen once after overnight charging I went to the settings to disable the “wake and rise” function as suggested by others. BUT this morning we left for an early drive to drop off our daughter for travel. In the car for hours, I decided to charge my phone in the car. I was using it when it hit 100% charge and suddenly the screen started to dim. I caught it before it went black by going in to the screen setting and turning back to the brightness. How did it just decide to turn down the screen brightness on its own?!? I’ll never understand! But I’m wondering if this is what’s happening? Only problem with that logic is that even at its darkest setting, the screen still shows a tiny amount through the darkness.

I seem to have the same issue with my iPhone 15 Pro, charging overnight on the Apple MagSafe charger and finding it has the black screen in the morning. I have recovered it once by receiving an incoming call and on a second time using the vol-up, vol-down, hold on button method. It only seems to have been happening since I upgraded the software to 17.1.1 (I have had the phone for a couple of months). I have just upgraded too 17.1.2, fingers crossed!

Hello - this is happening to me too iPhone 15promax - when I charge it with USB-C cable from Apple overnight- the next morning is full charged and screen black. I can hear the screen working and hear clicking on lock and unlock but can’t see what I’m doing until I force restart. It’s nothing to do with wireless charging in my case, but think it’s same issue as everybody else. . And see it’s 100% charged - (optimised charging setting ) just saw update today 17.1.2 not sure of this will fix will report back
