iPhone 15 Pro Max black screen

My phone has gone black while charging the last two nights. It will ring, sounds can be heard but the screen will not wake up. Had to press/release the volume up & down button then the on button to turn it back on. The phone works fine all during the day. What’s causing this?!?

I have exactly the same issue and I can provide more info about the after my experiment.

  1. This issue happens when using MagSafe dock to charge and when the phone is VERTICAL. It will be fine if the phone is set horizontally with the night clock display feature.
  2. the black screen is not dead. The phone is actually working but only screen not light on.
  3. it will automatically recover after around 3 minutes since you take the phone from charger.
  4. this issue seems only happened for 15 pro / pro max. As my wife’s iPhone 15 never has this issue.

This happened for the first time to me last night. I woke up around 0230, although I didn’t know it was 0230 at the time because my phone wouldn’t light up. When I took it off the charger, and put it back on the charger I heard the noise it makes when it makes connection to the charger so I knew the phone was still on. I restarted the phone and thank goodness I knew approximately where the slide to power off button was on the screen. When I turned the phone back on I saw the Apple logo and it lit up normally. I’ve only had the phone for a week, but I hope I never experienced this glitch again. Hopefully, Apple can come up with a solution to this issue. For reference, I use the charger that came in the box, and a Belkin quick charging cube.

I experienced the same issue for the second time when charging my (launch day) 15 Pro today, resting vertically on a stand, with the USB-C charging cable that came with it.

In my case it's the lock screen that goes dark. A swipe-up will unlock it and all content is visible. It seems to be only the lock screen affected. I tried swiping down to activate the lock screen again and it was very difficult to do so, the phone was practically unresponsive.

This lasted for around 5 min or so and while I was googling for the problem the lock screen came back on.

I’m with you!!!! Apple needs to fix this so it’s important that everyone report this software problem. They know what the fix is b/c the same exact thing happened to me last year at this time with my new at the time 14 Pro Max! And again this year. As I recall, it had something to do with the rise and wake feature so I turned it off in settings again this year, and I haven’t had a problem since. Good luck.

I was hanging up from a FT call when the screen on my 15 Pro Max went completely black. I tried turning it off to restart it, but was unable to. As I was troubleshooting, my mom called. I was able to answer and talk, but it wouldn’t allow me to hang up once the call was finished. I’m extremely frustrated to be experiencing these sorts of problems already when I haven’t even had this phone for a solid month. This seems to be a common problem for the 15 Pro/Pro Max and needs to be addressed immediately. It’s been 30 minutes, and my screen is still black.

Please fix this Apple! What a pain in the ***! I too ended up calling 911 or whatever that is and sirens came on. Luckily no emergency vehicles showed up. Now I know the steps to reboot but why is this happening so much? This is the first time ever, after owning several iPhones over the years. Figures it was the 15 pro max, the most expensive one I’ve owned. lol

Happened to me today! After the night charged the screen went completely black.

Despite the screen blackout, I still can feel the vibration when someone calls.

Hard restart via 'side button' + 'volume button' doesn't work now because iPhone now requires the user to slide on the 'slide to power off' button to proceed (how user able to do that when the screen blackout?). Result of continuing pressing 'side button' + 'volume button' causes siren alarm sounds then route the call to Emergency 999. I was panic and trying to listen to the call and the screen light on again. Do I need to call emergency everytime to fix the issue?

I had a same problem last night and aroUnd a month ago. It was around that my phone was black out 30 min both times.

last night my phone was connected to Boss speaker and I could hear the clicking sound and camera shutting sound. After my phone became normal, I could check my phone took the photos while it was back-out itself.

It is so strange, I sleeved had this problem before since I stick to iPhone more than 15years.

I also worry about when I really need a phone and if it won’t work. Sometimes I don’t bring my wallet or anything without phone when I go for walk shortly. And usually I use my flights tickets in my phone. I am going to go to Apple Store and will ask about it.

ok I just had this happen to my iPhone 15 Pro Max this morning and holy cow the panic that settled in.

My phone was charging vertically at night on a wireless charger that I have been using since the iPhone 12 Pro with out any issues. This morning when I got a phone call the screen was dark and I couldn't pick I had to rush and use my MacBook to pick the call while I troubleshoot my phone. Apple please fix this because a wired charger is not an option during meeting or work video calls.
