iPhone 15 Pro Max black screen

My phone has gone black while charging the last two nights. It will ring, sounds can be heard but the screen will not wake up. Had to press/release the volume up & down button then the on button to turn it back on. The phone works fine all during the day. What’s causing this?!?

Happening to me too! I just got my 15 pro max phone a little over a week ago. I’m on vacation in New Orleans…woke up this morning after using my apple mag safe charger overnight to a black screen!! Woke up my husband after trying everything to figure it out. His 15 (not pro max) was on his Apple MagSafe charger all night and his is fine! We could feel the vibrations on my phone so knew it was on but the screen was pitch black. I ended up doing a reset using the volume up, down and holding power button til it reset and came back on. When is this being fixed?? When we get back home, do I need to go to an Apple Store and exchange this phone now?! Ugghhh. So frustrating.

I have had my iPhone 15 Pro Max for about six weeks and this is the second time I’ve had this issue. There is not a problem with the chargers. There is a problem with the phones and they need to fix it. I have the original charger, I’m not in extreme conditions, and I don’t overuse my phone. There should be no reason to wake up to a pitch black screen out the blue. These phones are way too expensive to have to worry about them working or not.

Mine too! I have the 15 Pro Max. Screen did not respond to touch, I could use the side buttons and reboot, and did about 10 times to no avail. Had to make an appointment 2 hours away.

The lady hooked it up to their computer and said it had to be erased and restarted with their software.

She said she had just started her work week and has had 4-6 phones already in for the same issue in two days. She said if you could plug it into a computer with itunes, and it reads it, you can select “Restore” to essentially do the same thing she did for me at the Apple Store. She told me this is happening a lot with the 15’s, with no explanation of why it’s happening.👎🏼 👎🏼

Back up your phone and restore from iTunes.

12/4/23

purchased my iPhone 15pro less than a week ago on 11/29 and this morning I woke up to a black screen! You could tell it was working because it made the clicking sounds and responded to being plugged to the charger. One of the reasons I hate getting new a phone something always goes wrong! Definitely glad I’m not the only one with this issue.

Apple please fix this!

This also happened to me for the first time tonight and thanks to this thread I could reset the phone and wake it up.

It happened while charging

I used the cable that came with it to charge

It likely happened when the phone was at 100%

I wonder if it happens if the phone didn’t need a full charge.

Very frustrating to not be able to to see the screen, especially worrying if there was an emergency.

This exact thing has happened to me twice. On Sunday, I was without my phone for the entire day. My entire family was freaking out because I wouldn't answer the phone. I finally got an appointment at the Apple Store. The second I walked into the Apple Store, the screen turned back on after being black for 8 hours. They ran a diagnostic check on it and said everthing was fine. A few days later, it did the same exact thing. It always happens after the phone has been charging at night. I use a MagSafe charger and charge the phone while laying horizontally. I sure hope Apple fixes this soon!

I am wondering the same thing about the charging. My phone was down to 49% when I plugged it in at bed time. I can hear it making the normal noises, so I know it is on. I have only had the phone a little over a month and last night was the second time this happened. As of this morning, I still have a black screen. I am afraid to "play" with the buttons too much becasue I do not want to set off the emergency alert. This is not ideal for anyone let alone when you have a 90-year old mother that could need help. This is beyond frustrating. We pay too much for our phones to have an ongoing issue such as this. I cannot call Apple support since I cannot see the screen!

Mine hasn’t went black for a month.

I always charge to 100 percent if I can. Done MagSafe, wireless, C to C, A to C.

Maybe it’s some conflict between charging AND the Raise and Wake feature (or maybe not the charging at all), but once I DISABLED that, it hasn’t went black since.

Anyone else who’s had this happen consistently try that? I haven’t read other than than this seemed to be the culprit. Turning that off Raise and Wake in system setting worked for me since it the screen doesn’t have to chance to not “wake up” unless it’s I’m just lucky.

After updating to iOS 17.1.2 still experiencing black screen of death after charging the iPhone 15 Pro Max. (Battery-health, optimisation enabled).

The funny thing is, it’s not totally black death, everything works in the background. (In the darkness)

Unfortunately, the only fix to this issue is performing the hard reset. In my opinion, this is a serious issue that needs to be solved ASAP.

Keep in mind that we are talking about the most expensive cell phone in the whole world.

What happened to “ It’s just works”???

I’ll experiment with disabling the “Rise and wake option”

Mine just did the same thing. Woke up at 330 in the morning to my screen not working but could tell it was still on because of sounds and vibrations. So all of a sudden in the midst of my screen being black a siren type sound starts blaring in my house waking everyone up and my phone calls the police. Luckily I could communicate with the 911 operator even though the screen was black and let him know it’s just my screen not working. This just happened 5 minutes ago so hopefully the police don’t show up at my door in the next few minutes. This happens again and it’s going back to Apple. Only had the phone for a week. Sad !!

it happened to me too, i wake up with a black screen on my phone after charging all night on my nightstand. I can feel that still working, but with a black screen. I press the shutdown bottom, and other button trying to resetting, it called 911 and like someone above i could even hang up. I told my husband to call, send text to see if that will make the trick. Finally it came to light again, but today did the same thing again. This time it was on a wireless charger. I pressed the up sound bottom, down sound and side bottom, after 3 minutes it call back, so this is not a problem of the charger, cable… since it did it twice on a different forms of charging. I’m pretty sure this is a software issue, it just started after i downloaded the new IOS. Very frustrating to start the day like that on a phone that does not have more than 6 months.

I charged my phone overnight since I have an IPhone … first iPhone on the market. My iPhone 15 has been charging all night without an issue until i download the new IOS, why Apple will say don’t charge your phone overnight, everyone that exactly that since iPhone came to live. They have a problem and they need to solve it, it is very annoying not able to use your phone, and even worse if you have an emergency and you are unable to use it.
