My iPhone 15 Pro Max intermittently disconnects from 5G Ghz Wifi

I’m actually really tired of writing community notes about my issues but here once again I have a problem with the WiFi connection it keeps on disconnecting, it’s the 5G GHz band of WiFi that keeps on disconnecting and not wanting to connect sometimes and even not showing up on the WiFi settings, the 2.4 GHz is working normally tho but not the 5 GHz band. I know it might look like it’s my router issue but this happens in other routers too, but sometimes it works normally again and other times it doesn’t even wanna show up in the settings. One thing to add, to fix this issue I have to reset my network settings in the settings app

I think I've found a solution.

I'm using Danish language so the naming of the steps is not 100% accurate.

  1. Go to Mobile data/network settings
  2. Scroll down and you'll see Help to Wifi or similar, the description is "Use mobile data if Wifi connection is poor". Turn that OFF!

It has helped me, now the disconnects don't happen anymore. Btw, using iphone 15 pro, ios 17.5.1

Have a nice day!

I get this issue when traveling internationally, which I do for work. To keep on the WiFi, you’ll need to change your Data Mode. Go to Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Data Options -> Data Mode. The default setting is “Allow More Data on 5G”. This selection may cause your phone to switch from WiFi to cellular data if it determines 5G will be faster than WiFi. If you choose “Standard” or “Low Data Mode” then your phone will attempt to keep the WiFi connection when the signal strength or data speed decreases until it can no longer maintain a stable connection. You may notice a drop in video quality if you prefer the WiFi over 5G (that will depend on your connection to the cellular network and WiFi).

"Telling us to restart the phone, or anything like that, is not solving anything,: We all know how to get back on wifi, ...why does it continue to drop off of wifi?"

Three things to try...

Force Restart, Restart the Modem and Router for 30 Seconds, and Log in to your Modem:

Forget the "normal" restart --Force Restart it. All open items will close, and you'll be up to go from there. It may just not be responding. But know that just because you lose connection to the Internet does not mean that you have lost the connection --you may be seen on the internal LAN. So, log into your router using the Default Gateway, and see if it is seen. If so, then you have the connection to the WiFi, but just don't have an IP address. Power off your modem and router for 30 seconds, and then proceed from there. See if you get a new IP address. DHCP is the protocol for home use IMO.

Troubleshooting iPhone WiFi not Working:

Try The Following the the Order Provided:

I. Start Here: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t Connect to a Wi-Fi Network - Apple Support

II. What Else to Try:

A. Restarting the iPhone:

If any changes were made (i.e. Installed Apps), then Settings (i.e Wf-Fi), may have become manipulated technically. So, try restarting the iPhone:

  1. Go To: Settings
  2. Tap: General
  3. Tap: Shut Down
  4. Slide: Your Finger to the Right

B. Disable Cellular:

Try disabling Cellular, and using Wi-Fi instead, seeing if that makes all the difference. Cellular always overrules Wi-Fi.

C. Try manually restarting your iPhone:

  1. Go To: Settings
  2. Select: General
  3. Scroll to: the Very Bottom
  4. Select: Shut Down
  5. Slide Finger: to the Right
  6. Wait: 30 Seconds
  7. Power One: the iPhone
  8. Try this Once More

III. Report this to Apple:

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that this all began after installing an update. Include the URL of this post
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

Close All of your Apps:

Depending on your iPhone model, you can close all of your apps in a particular manor. Is there a touchpad on the bottom-middle of iPhone? If so: Tap on it, and swipe up for each app that shows. If no touchpad: Swipe up quickly from the bottom-left corner to the top-right cornet of the phone's screen, and then swipe up for each open app.
