Apple Watch Ultra battery draining while on charge after updating to OS 10.1

After I update my Apple Watch Ultra software 30mins ago the battery keeps draining while the watch is on charge. It was on 80% and while on charge with the green bolt sign showing it’s dropped to 76%

I’ve tried restarting my Apple Watch Ultra and iPhone 15pro but the battery percentage still drops on my Apple Watch Ultra while on charge.

my iPhone 15pro software is up to date too with ios 17.1.

how to fix this. Please advice

I had the same issue with my Ultra 2! I saw on another string that Mobyface was the culprit. Rang true to me because I have that 3rd party app. I uninstalled it from my phone and watch and my battery draining issue went away!!! Hope this helps.

Just spoke with apple customer support: and the only solutions are

  • return the watch and ask for an OS downgrade to 10.02
  • wait until a new upgrade is released

They recommended not using the watch in the interim period.

I have asked that this case be escalated and made reference to other users (you!) having the same issue. The support has escalated this accordingly.

So no solution (yet), but at least flagged and hopefully not too long to wait.

*** UPDATE

Interestingly the apple support removed my earlier post, stating the this was no place for developers discussion.

So let me be very clear: I installed the released 10.1 update which was pushed onto all devices - NOT a beta. Your own support referred to it as ‚beta‘ - however it clearly isn’t and this post absolutely belongs here.

I’ve been having problems for last 2 days since the 10.1 update, was only holding charge for 3 hours at best and I literally turned everything off to see if it helped which it didn’t, I’ve seen a post about the mobyfox app and if u turn it off it might work, well it has!!! My battery was at 77% when on dropped to 65% within 30mins as soon as I switched it off it’s stopped draining it’s been about 1h30m and I’m at 63% hope this helps someone else

I found the fix! I couldn’t believe how fast my Apple Watch Ultra 2 battery was dying either. It went from 100% to 0% in a little over 5 hours. I usually use it heavily and still have 83% by the end of the night when I put it back on the charger. I upgraded mine to 10.2 and I have no more issues, my watch is back to normal, no battery issue and running smoothly! I’m so happy. I can’t say the words on here or this message will get deleted. But become a d******** and get the p***** b*** 10.2. Your watch will be back to normal and not useless on the 10.1 that is killing our batteries!!!

Not sure if this will help anyone or if this will even work for you, but you may want to give it a try.

1st I uninstalled all the apps on the watch from the app.

2nd I placed the watch in Low Power mode.

3rd I lowered the brightness down to its lowest setting

4th I removed all of my watch faces except for 1

5th I turned the WIFI and the Bluetooth off and then on in the watch settings

6th I Shut down the watch from the watch settings and then restart

7th I placed the watch on the charger

The watch was cycling between 29% and 31% going up and down for about 5-10 minutes. After that I noticed the charge seemed to stablize and it continued to increase all the way to 100%. I have taken it off the charger and it seems to be holding at 100%for the past hour. Now I dont know what exactly may have been the deciding factor as to what fixed the issue but it seems to be working so far. My next thing to test is to see if it will stay stable after I turn the brightness back up and if I decide to reinstall some apps.

Hope this helps anyone! Spread the word if it does!

If you upgrade to 10.2 and the battery is still causing a problem, you need to leave it on the charger for a long time to fully undo whatever they did to make you put it on the charger in the first place. Mine started draining FASTER after going to 10.2, but then after about 48 hours on the charger it's back to normal now.

Thank you arsonist, for kind of putting out the fire.
