Apple Watch Ultra battery draining while on charge after updating to OS 10.1

After I update my Apple Watch Ultra software 30mins ago the battery keeps draining while the watch is on charge. It was on 80% and while on charge with the green bolt sign showing it’s dropped to 76%

I’ve tried restarting my Apple Watch Ultra and iPhone 15pro but the battery percentage still drops on my Apple Watch Ultra while on charge.

my iPhone 15pro software is up to date too with ios 17.1.

So this problem started on my series 7 and then I went to the Apple Store and ended up buying a series 9 since my series 7 had a good trade in value. After reading another discussion post about this issue it seems as though the best thing to do is (if you have it installed) to delete the MobyFace app as it has fixed the problem for me so far. If you like the faces the app provides you can save the photos to your phone and use the photo face for these instead

So after updating to 10.1 my battery life on both my Ultra and Series 5 plummeted. My Series 5 went from 100% charge to 5% in 3 hours. My Ultra would not charge fully Friday, and Saturday I tried a hard restart and it’s became a brick. Stuck at the Apple logo… I have tried a hard restart several times and it just goes back to the logo. I have tried charging for a few hours and hard restart and same result.

Moby Face isn't the issue. I didn't have Moby Face installed, same issues, 16 hours of headaches this finally worked.

Successful Steps to follow -

Watch won't charge - Probably overheating, stuck at like 40%. Remove from charger, place in cool place (Fridge worked for me). After that put on charger to get it charging again.

On iPhone watch app - remove 3rd party apps that you don't use. This does two things, it forces your watch to communicate with your phone and removes apps that may be an issue. After doing this my diagnostic logs went from 3 pages to 1 single item.

Restart both the Phone and the Watch - may not be necessary but it's always safe to do this step.

Hope that helps.

I've got a Series 9 watch and did the update Saturday night, since then, it's not fully charging, drains battery veryquickly and overheats at charging point, tried different charges, reset it, and also removed the Optimise Charge limit function, and nothing still the doing the same. I had a chat with someone in support and now I've got a booking to take the watch to a store. Its' just 1 month old!!

I saw in other comments to delete all third party apps on the watch and it should fix it. My watch was going from 100 % to 0% in approximately two hours and that was with battery saver on at 100 %. I deleted all the third party apps and restarted my watch. It is now dropping about a percent every forty minutes or so, which is what it normally was at before the update. I hope this helps, I was at my wits end trying to fix this issue.

I was having the same issue. I called apple support and zero help from a regular representative. Told me to return the watch. I called AT&T and they said since it’s a warranty issue, I had to go through apple. AT&T connected me with a higher apple representative. This person asked me to type moby face into my search on my phone. It brought up an app that I never installed. It was something with photography. He had me delete it off my phone and check it was off my watch. Since doing that, my watch is not draining any more. He said he has had several fixes with doing that. Hope this helps cause I was about done with apple.
