Apple Watch Ultra battery draining while on charge after updating to OS 10.1

It definitely is Moby Face. Uninstall it! Until Apple gets their stuff together it’s our only fix. Hats off to the one who discovered this!! My watch now fully charged in under two hours. I’ve been wearing it for 12 hours now and currently at 83%

Exactly the same thing happened to me. They said they couldn’t duplicate the issue. I received my watch and when I paired it to my iPhone I noticed that the WatchOS was on version 10.0.1 instead of 10.1. I turned off the automatic updates and the watch worked perfectly like it did before I updated it. Funny that they didn't diagnose with 10.1 which seems to be the issue.

Same issue here. Was fine until 10.1 Won’t hold a charge more than a few hours. Tried rebooting but the problem persists. Not sure a reset will fix it because it stays on 10.1. I shut off background app refresh (which I never had to do before.)

I got series 6, and I just can't believe how it totally drained in an hour after the update. Just picked it off the charging puck this morning, and by the time I got to work, I got the 10% notification, 10 minutes later it was at 4%. I barely checked some settings and shut down.

I went to Apple Store and had the same experience. They said battery was 98%, so the problem was not battery. I said it happened immediately after I updated. They said I would have to wait for fix. Can’t do anything it drains so fast it’s useless. And I had to charge 7 times to get my stand ring closed on fitness.

After a couple of un-pairing / repairing, new set-up, etc... I finally threw in the towel and contacted support. Got past the first level which told me I was running a Beta. Second level ran diagnostics and said that there were temperature flags set on everything on the watch except the battery! Set up the replacement and hopefully I'll have a new watch soon and send this one back. Yesterday afternoon got pretty rough with it - I couldn't get it charge more than 10% at a time before it would start overheating. It got a little better after I re-setup as a new watch, but still started depleting 1% every 5 minutes or so.

This battery drain is ridiculous. I put on my watch this morning when it was at 100% battery. It has been 1.5 hours and I'm already down to 59%. I have the Series 6 and the battery drain has never been this bad with an update. Yesterday my watch just turned off mid-walk after I updated and it was fully charged.

After going through all the suggestions everyone has tried, the only thing I found that worked was to roll back the update to watch os 9 and start over. Running thing is that when I did that the watch went back to 10.1 but a different build. If you have the option to roll it back do it. If not, you may be still waiting for the patch( or update) to fix yours. DEFINITELY A SOFTWARE ISSUE!!!!

There is nothing hardware related to the watches. Hopefully this helps.

FYI, I started day with 100% at 7:15 est and now my watch is at 100% at 9:46 est.

If you're having trouble installing any 3rd party apps(MobyFace), 1st, your watch has to have some charge to the battery. 2nd, it needs to be unlocked.

Go to your watch app and click remove on the 3rd party apps you want to remove.

Once the app has a connection to your watch, it will start uninstalling then and then you can put your watch on the charger. And once the offending app is gone, your charging speed should dramatically improve as well your battery life.

I have to agree here. For me, and quite a few others, it was those third party watch face apps. But obviously not everyone uses those. So maybe it’s a bunch of un-updated apps that are running in the background.

I've got a Series 9 watch and did the update Saturday night, since then, it's not fully charging, drains battery veryquickly and overheats at charging point, tried different charges, reset it, and also removed the Optimise Charge limit function, and nothing still the doing the same. I had a chat with someone in support and now I've got a booking to take the watch to a store. Its' just 1 month old!!

Thank all for sharing. I’ve been having the same issues the past few weeks with my Ultra. I thought, or hoped, it would resolve itself once I upgraded to the 15 pro max, but it hasn’t. An update is needed to fix this issue asap. I can’t use my watch for more than 3 hours before it dies. It’s nothing like the 36 hours or so I used to get from it per charge.

Same problem here - updated yesterday evening, woke up to an empty watch (never happens). The battery now drops extremely quickly and even whilst charging!

Apple, we need an urgent fix!
