watchOS 10.1 : Heart rate complication invisible

Hello everyone,

I just updated my Apple Watch to watchOS 10.1. The heart rate complication is now invisible. I can tap where it used to be and it does open the Heart Rate app. So, it's there but just invisible.

I tested other watch faces to confirm the issue and all the faces I tried also do not display the complication any longer.

A forced restart did not fix the issue.

Any suggestions?

Getting to think seriously that Apple is losing contact with its customers. Just getting too big to care, OR having so many complaints they just can’t reply fast enough.

COME ON APPLE!!! GET YOUR S**T TOGETHER!!! There are too many of us that reply on the Apple Watch for health reasons for you to ignore us!! Ugh!!!!

I found on another thread (Reddit) a solution. They suggested a free app called Heart Analyzer and I used it as my complication. It seems to work fine, however the heart rate can be up to 10 minutes in the past. It appears the heart rate updates sooner than that sometimes, probably if there is a noticeable change.

I think I solved the problem. Delete the Watch Faces with the heart rate showing from your watch directly. Just keep the simple ones without too many complications. Then load the watch face for example the Nike Digital one with heart rate complication at the bottom onto your watch. I did this process two times and it started working again on every watch face that I downloaded directly from the watch. Do not load the watch face from the phone onto the watch!!!

"I just added the Mickey Mouse watch face, added the heart rate complication to the bottom and it totally worked for me! All my other activity faces now have the heart rate showing at the bottom. So odd, thank you!"

It will hang there, later after 2 days and on... it will not and never update. My Mickey mouse face already showing 9 days ago heart rate...

I have had the same problem and frustration as everyone else. I contacted Apple support last night spent an hour and a half on the phone with them as they told me I would need to reset the Watch previous to the 10.1 update. We did that and it did not go back to 10.0 and stayed at 10.1 the 10.1 update has caused all these problems. Someone made mention in another comment in the same thread that the Heart Analyzer application works for them. I downloaded the Heart Analyzer app use the Watch app on the phone to add it to the Watch and put it on my Watch face and it works just like the previous one that is now invisible so I can look at my watch, and it tells me how many beats per minute I had the last time the Watch checked my heart rate , so that’s a workaround that seems to be working fine for me right now. The Heart Analyzer app when you look at it on the phone has taken over all the data from the Apple Watch app and has much more data interpretation than what the Apple application did so far that Heart Analyzer app is doing a much better job .

I reached out to the developer of the Heart Analyzer app. It works fine for me but there is delay of up to 10 minutes at times. Here is his answer:

Generally on the Apple Watch third party app complications update roughly every 10-15 minutes. Unfortunatly this is not always as often as the built in Apple complications. The watch tends to measure your heart rate every 5 minutes, so there can occasionally be some discrepancy, but not much. If you don’t think your complications are updating this much, can I suggest the following things:

Try checking the app has background refresh enabled in the Apple Watch App for iPhone -> General -> Background Refresh

Try launching the watch app when the data is stale, swipe right twice and select Refresh, see if this kicks it back into sync with the auto updates

Try uninstalling and re-installing the app
