iOS 17.1 Battery drain

I think any of us here is asking why we all experience such a bad battery drain after iOS 17.1.

i made the update yesterday and had to recharge twice in 4 hours.

it is said that the background activities after update are demanding ones but that’s not the whole truth.

during the night I recharged my iPhone 15 PRO Max and never really reached 100% because of a really poor battery management and process handling by the system.

now trying to turn off the “always on” screen feature see what’s happen.

if anyone at Apple is reading please solve this because the issue is really affecting bad the life of iPhone users…. And it never happened such a bad thing from you so I am quite surprised there’s no way to find a quick solution.

OK Guys, after installing 17.1.1 my iPhone 15 pro works as it should. After two hours of listening YouTube with the screen off there was no heat, not even warm and the battery was also normal; 9% was gone after these two hours of listening. After 17.1 just 5-10 minutes of listening was enough to make it hot. Should be ok now.

Not sure who you are asking, but for me it was the entire phone. After updating to 17.1.1 though it didnt seem to have the heating issue but the battery drain was still there.

That being said... last night I took some advice by someone who mentioned looking into the "Battery - Battery Health and Charging" setting. There was 1 outstanding application that was taking up about 40% of the battery. I closed the app down and as of this afternoon I am sitting above an 80% charge (which is what I was used to prior to any of the updates)

I had very poor battery performance with the 17.1 update on my iPad Pro 3rd gen. The battery drain chart looked like a ski jump. All the problems went away with 17.2. Everything is normal again and the battery lasts all day. I’m afraid of 17.2.1 . I am a scientist and rooted in data and discipline, but somehow these IOS anomalies are beyond math and logic. Apple is magic. We never know how or why, but somehow it happens and things work again.

Try this… I think is working for me. iOS 17.1.1 operating system is new and many apps have not appropriately update their apps to the new iOS. So try keeping all non Apple apps completely close during the day. Open them and close them as you use them. But don’t leave them running in the background. Try this in combination with everything else in the subject we usually find in the web.

I’ve done everything possible to keep my battery from draining in front of my eyes on my 14 Pro. Always in dark mode, always on display off, etc. I’m starting to think it’s Location Services. Every single time I pull down the utility menu my phone is constantly being located by the built in Weather app AND widget. Turned that setting to While Using and will update if I notice any improvements.

After installing 17.2 my iPhone 15 Pro is running ( the last 24 hours) smoothly like butter, at least now 😏 I have been using it as always and it works brilliantly. With infamous 17.1 it was just a disaster with overheating, just listening on Brave app was not warm but hot! Now it’s cool and asks for more 😁 I hope it stays like this. I charged it to 100% yesterday at 22:00 and today at 20:30 I am on 68% ( I am not using it heavily) just normal browsing. Best of luck 🍀

I Live in an area with no cell coverage so it’s always on WiFi calling. I notice that after this update my battery life has been cut in half when home. Noticed my no cellular drain is 24% of my battery. This was never happening before. My son hasn’t updated and he sits at 6%. I know back in the old android days we’d root the device and turn down the cellular polling interval and do a few other things to get all day battery life. It seem the phone is trying way too much to get a signal when the WiFi calling is engaged and there is zero cellular signal.

I heard the drain could be caused by certain non-Apple apps. Have you tried to uninstall apps to see if this resolves the issue? Not that you should have to of course, but at least you could then decide what is worse; the extreme battery drain or going without app x.

We’re running iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 15 Pro on the latest iOS and the batteries have been fine, so I wondering what’s the defining factor here.
