After updating 17.1.1 my iphone 13’s wifi speed has slowed down drastically. Youtube, facebook and even the safari browser is taking long time to load and display content. Because of the lag, the phone is continuously switching to mobile data from wifi. Just to clarify my wifi is working fine with other devices. Please fix this as we expect premium products and services from apple

Troubleshooting Lagging Wifi on an iPhone:

If iPhone WiFi is slow, then here are some things to consider...

A. Disable a VPN:

Are you using a VPN? If so, disable it.

B. Clear Space:

System resources may be swollen up. So, clear space. See my two User Tips:

C. Clear the Temporary Internet Files:

D. Force Close All Apps:

An app may not be responding. So, close all apps. Hold you finger down on the Bottom-left cornet. As you swipe to the top-left corner, the apps will pop up. Then, close all of these open apps, by sweeping up quickly for all apps.

I’m also having this issue on 17.3.1 with my iPhone 15 Pro. Knowing that I hadn’t turned on my current gen iPad Mini in awhile I booted it up and ran a test since it was on 17.2. It got 500mbps. I then updated the iPad to 17.4.1. My iPad now only gets 40mpbs down. I took screen recordings of both of those runs. In both cases the devices have iCloud relay off, and I disabled background app refresh for all apps to see if that mattered. No change for either. Resetting network settings also had no effect. My work laptop and phone(Windows and Android), both easily get 800-900mbps down on the same WiFi network. My iPhone 15 Pro also gets 900mbps down from its cellular connection through t-mobile. The issue only presents on my iOS devices with current versions of iOS, and only on WiFi.

Similar problems and all the usual fixes do not help. What has helped is turning off the new “Private Relay” feature. This seems to produce consistently better results by about two orders of magnitude. iPad and MacBook Pro and iMac all absolutely great. iPhones just a complete disaster.

When Private Relay is off I get between 40 and 300 Mb/s. When Private Relay is switched on I am getting between 1 and 30 Mb/s. Would be interesting to know if others get similar results.

I was very sceptical about doing any further upgrades until this week when I had to make a decision about upgrading after having major issues after my last upgrade slowing down my iPhone 13 Pro, I did everything suggested to help speed it up.

I now have done the upgrade 17.4 and fine my iPhone has the speed back. They have obviously rectified the previous issues, with new additions which I’ve not explored yet, things seem to be getting brighter.

I just got on the phone with Apple and he had me check my battery.

Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging

It shows my battery is significantly degraded.

He suggested this might be the problem and that IOS 17 put a greater strain on the old battery causing the phone to slow down.

I'm going to get a new battery installed ($90) to see if that fixes the problem.

I rarely use WiFi, but it is still slowing down my iphone 14. I have to go to settings and turn off WiFi (even though I’m not using it) to be able to do anything online. Then when I shut it off, it says “turning off WiFi until tomorrow”. But a few hours later WiFi will turn itself back on and aI will be lagging again. Beyond frustrating!
