iOS 17.1.1 - Issues with iPhone touch screen

This morning I updated my iPhone 15 pro (3 week old phone) to iOS 17.1.1. Prior to the update everything worked fine. After the update the touch screen does not respond. The screen works and the buttons work, but the touch feature is completely unresponsive. I have restarted the phone using the up vol, down vol and hold the power button several times with no success on restoring touch.

I can still wirelessly charge my phone, but wired charging does not work either. (this is also a new issue post 17.1.1 update)

Anyone else seeing these issues? Any suggestions before I go back to ATT?

FIXED!!!! Thank you to those that recommended Apple Configurator!! I downloaded it from App Store, connected my phone and followed Step 3 here... Revive or restore a Mac with Apple silicon using Apple Configurator – Apple Support (UK) (appreciate it's a Mac post but step 3 applies to iphones too)

No factory reset or loss of data or the pain of setting up banking apps and apple pay etc.... :)

I'm on windows so I know the mac is a little different. When I plugged my phone into iTunes it told me it was in DFU mode, I had two choices, Cancel or Restore. The restore is to factory settings and iTunes downloaded the software and did the update. After that was complete because I had a recent backup of 17.1 it asked if I wasn't to restore that which of course I did. Once that was done the phone was essentially back to normal with all my apps and settings. The entire process for me was about 30 minutes.

did you try to run the recovery by connecting it to a PC with iTunes or Mac? I believe this method does a more thorough recovery than the option in settings. I could be wrong it's been a while since I looked into this but I believe it's through iTunes recovery tool that you're able to fix a phone that had been jailbreaked also it's through the iTunes that saved passwords on device can be backed up so you have them when you perform a reset of the device. Backups through WiFi don't have saved passwords and a number of other things that are backed up using iTunes. If you did use itunes to recover the device and it didn't fix the issue or wasn't able to fully recover such as an error occurred during the process. Your appointment with the Apple Store is your best option in at least finding out what happened to it and any possibility of it being fixed.

This worked. Steps:

1) Ensure macOS 14.2.1

2) Via Apple Configurator, Advance -> Revive

That is it.

We went to Apple Store, and to other repair stores, it was zero luck, all suggested to Restore with data loss. But REVIVE works without loss of data on the iPhone.

Why can't Apple Support do it? Even Geek Squad **** in their pants while exposing options on unresponsive screen. This has become a **** show, totally.

There are 2 steps you need to follow and I have laid these 2 steps here many times:

1) UPDATE your Mac laptop OS to latest version like 14.x.x

2) In the Apple Configurator, go to advance and select REVIVE

This should fix the problem. If it does not, the post here the EXACT version of your Mac laptop version where Apple Configurator is installed. For people who do not own a Mac device, they can buy Mac Air cheapest model, update the macOS on it to latest and follow the above steps, and then return the Mac Air back to apple store within 30 days.

I ran into the same issue mentioned on the post and in the comments. Went to the apple store and they told me that the only thing they could do was a factory restore. I didn't have my phone backed up (couple years at least) and I really didn't want to lose any data. I also reached out to Data Recovery companies that were quoting me $700+. I tried the Apple Configurator but wasn't able to download it.

I used Tenorshare to reinstall the latest update and that worked! Wanted to share in case it helps anyone else on this thread!!

One thing to note, while my phone was unresponsive to the touch screen, I continued to get messages/notifications on my watch.

URGENT: I have booked an appointment with Apple in 21hrs time of this post being sent. A lot of people on here have followed the DFU mode complete reset and restored from backup and it was a success. My backup was unfortunately from 22 days ago so I would like to avoid doing this, so I just wanted to see if anyone gets a chance to take it to store to see what they say? Will a factory reset be inevitable regardless of the fix? Can Apple somehow backup what's on the phone (their's and possibly 3rd party) with the tools they have? If the answer to those two questions is no then I'll just do a factory reset now and hope for the best. I certainly dont want them to send it away for repair and be without a phone. Any help is appreciated.

Yes. I recovered my phone fully doing a 'revive' using Apple Configurator app.

you might be able to still do a hard reset on the phone. Just need a PC or. Mac with iTunes installed on it and logged into the same Apple ID as your device. When connected with a USB cable to the computer and have iTunes open. There's an option available for a factory reset on the device. Also it's through iTunes that you can also save passwords on any backups made which is probably recommended before you reset your phone. I believe you can also save the backup in a manner in which it's a separate or alternate backup but I don't remember if it will still override any current backup you have. It's been a while since I did this but it's possible you might be able to select what is backed up. I recommend just the personal files you want kept such as photos, music and documents along with passwords if you used the built-in keychain. I'm not sure if you can leave out anything involving the updates or if those are excluded but it's worth at least taking a look at it. If you're able to reset the device but it's still acting up or no change. You might have to take it into an Apple Store to have it looked at. This can be a sign of more severe damage to the device but hopefully it's not truly bricked (a bricked device tends to have problems booting up and even buttons may not actually work. For PCs this can be from messing with the wrong registry of the computer or changes in certain critical files that turns it into an expensive paperweight and irreparable damage that can't be undone. Given the security measures of iphones in preventing users from accessing anything that can do this isn't possible jailbreaking the device. If you never did that on purpose someone at an Apple Store can also check if a jailbreak was done on the device or if there's anything else that contributed to the problem.
