iOS 17.1.1 - Issues with iPhone touch screen

This morning I updated my iPhone 15 pro (3 week old phone) to iOS 17.1.1. Prior to the update everything worked fine. After the update the touch screen does not respond. The screen works and the buttons work, but the touch feature is completely unresponsive. I have restarted the phone using the up vol, down vol and hold the power button several times with no success on restoring touch.

I can still wirelessly charge my phone, but wired charging does not work either. (this is also a new issue post 17.1.1 update)

Anyone else seeing these issues? Any suggestions before I go back to ATT?

FIXED!!!! Thank you to those that recommended Apple Configurator!! I downloaded it from App Store, connected my phone and followed Step 3 here... Revive or restore a Mac with Apple silicon using Apple Configurator – Apple Support (UK) (appreciate it's a Mac post but step 3 applies to iphones too)

No factory reset or loss of data or the pain of setting up banking apps and apple pay etc.... :)

Support told me the same (on 17.3.1) - Effectively: "Need to wipe the device, hope you have a backup!"

Thankfully I have a Mac. Thankfully I'm a software engineer by trade and know how these things work. But it's entirely unacceptable that a company such as Apple has such a widespread problem (see this post as evidence) and has YET to fix the issue after several months.

What if I don't have a Mac? "Just go to an Apple Store!" - Easier said than done for many, either due to distance from the Stores, long waits at the store, etc. Also (This is my case) - What if I'm not near an Apple Store? "You can ship the phone in for repair!" - this should never be on the Support Agent's list of things to say to a customer in 2024. You KNOW that is a terrible option.

Absolutely abysmal levels of support and QA on their software for such an expensive device.

I am not sure why people do not read carefully. There is a difference between Restore (what you did) and REVIVE (what you did not do). There are 2 steps you need to follow and I have laid these 2 steps here many times:

1) UPDATE your Mac laptop OS to latest version like 14.x.x

2) In the Apple Configurator, go to advance and select REVIVE

This should fix the problem. If it does not, the post here the EXACT version of your Mac laptop version where Apple Configurator is installed.

For people who do not own a Mac device, they can buy Mac Air cheapest model, update the macOS on it to latest and follow the above steps, and then return the Mac Air back to apple store within 30 days.

I've been having a few issues with the touch screen but it's mostly when they keyboard comes up to type something.i use Gboard but as soon as the keyboard comes up and I press a key. It switches to what looks like a cross between Gboard and iOS default keyboard. Other touchscreen issues are more random and only occasionally will give me problems but nothing consistent to anything specific other than keyboard.

I use the fast charging cable and Apple charger for my iphone 11 and I have no issues with charging my phone. Have you tried using the cable and separately the charger with other devices. It's possible it could be either the cable or charger and best to check it nothing else to at least rule them out. Do each separately though, cable with different charger and charger with different cable that have been confirmed to work. This will also help with determining which if either of them are having issues. Also trying another cable and charger after testing on separate device and/or the charger/cable you used when the issue occurred with a different device that you confirmed doesn't have the issue. Sorry if I confuse you at all but this is to determine if it's the device or bad charger/cable or any mix of the 3 by ruling out what does work and what doesn't. It's also something that's saved me on occasions from replacing wrong thing after assuming the worse.

I recommend you have it looked at by someone in an Apple Store. If reset of the device (as in erasing everything and putting it back to how it was when it was first purchased or factory default.) I wasn't sure what you meant by refresh as in reset or just restarted the device such as hard reboot or something similar to turning off and on the device. If the latter then you may need to do a hard reset by connecting it to a computer not sure how much it's different with Mac but PC you need to have iTunes running and logged in to save Apple ID as the device and do it through the options in iTunes. If you have tried this then it needs to be looked at more thoroughly by someone more trained such as a tech at Apple. It's possible that this could be more severe and a number of possibilities but I'm not trained in such matters regarding Apple devices and can't provide anything specific that someone at an Apple Store can. Hopefully it's not as bad as what it could be but personally I'd rather get it checked properly and have it accurately diagnosed.

I wish Apple would let us know when we have these type of issues and release another update. Most of us have upgraded to the newest iOS and it is not fun when you had to restart your phone through a factory reset Apple needs to figure out these updates before releasing them to us, as I have also had to now factor restart and lose a lot of data that was not backed up to my iCloud as most of us know we had to re-enter our information to get her eye watches our iPads, and our other devices reconnected to the same account, and it takes almost a whole day to reset up Apple, please fix this update

I contacted apple and they say that it is a software issue they’re pretty sure at least. Thankfully they have gotten reports of this problem other then mine and finally after numerous calls of the same issue it seems like they’re finally informed that there is actually a problem, and more importantly it’s not just a problem i’m facing, but others as well which obviously sucks but is more comforting for me. Hopefully ios will fix this issue soon and let’s cross our fingers and hope that this is just a ios bug.

My one-week old IP15 Prm also got numb when updating to the latest iOS17.2. I took it to see a technician at Apple store at Marina Bay Sands (Singapore) and he confirmed just to restore to factory condition which would make all my data and photos lost. I asked him any other way to fix this without losing data and photos, he said no way. I was lucky not give him the phone to restore it.

I found this post and fixed the phone in half an hour with Apple Configurator. It successfully worked for me. Keep all data and photos. Thank you so much!
