iOS 17.1.1 - Issues with iPhone touch screen

This morning I updated my iPhone 15 pro (3 week old phone) to iOS 17.1.1. Prior to the update everything worked fine. After the update the touch screen does not respond. The screen works and the buttons work, but the touch feature is completely unresponsive. I have restarted the phone using the up vol, down vol and hold the power button several times with no success on restoring touch.

I can still wirelessly charge my phone, but wired charging does not work either. (this is also a new issue post 17.1.1 update)

Anyone else seeing these issues? Any suggestions before I go back to ATT?

IF this happens, DON'T go to the Apple Store. All you have to do is this:

  1. tap the volume up once
  2. tap the volume down once
  3. hold the power button until you see the apple logo (it will take about 40 seconds so be patient)

Then, VOILA! Restored!

My one-week old IP15 Prm also got numb when updating to the latest iOS17.2. I took it to see a technician at Apple store at Marina Bay Sands (Singapore) and he confirmed just to restore to factory condition which would make all my data and photos lost. I asked him any other way to fix this without losing data and photos, he said no way. I was lucky not give him the phone to restore it.

I found this post and fixed the phone in half an hour with Apple Configurator. It successfully worked for me. Keep all data and photos. Thank you so much!

Unfortunately they don't reveal any details of the issues being experienced due to the fact that they might also be used to exploit it for malicious reasons by another party. Especially with those who haven't updated the iOS from a recent version that could have a critical security issue that that wasn't being abused by others. Such as to hack a device and/or jailbreak it without the knowledge of the owne. If anything they've mentioned in updates if there's anything that involved a security update but that's as far as any information about it. They also include the reason why they don't include more details such as what the problem was similar to what I explained. I do agree with you on one point and that's having a better system that immediately gives a notification that update is available the moment it's available for the device being used. I usually have check if there's any update and the rare times I get a notification it's days after the update was available to install

There are some things that are shared regarding what's included in the updates which is accessible in a link included when you asked if you want to download/install it. Usually it's new features or various bug fixes.

I have attempted to download the Apple Configurator from the App Store, however, I am receiving a message that states I cannot download the app until my MacBook has been updated with IOS 14. Currently my MacBook is updated with the latest software which is MacOS 13.6.3. There is no IOS 14 for MacBook. I can't downloaded to my phone. My screen is unresponsive, it is why I am on this thread to start with.

Is there a way I can download Apple Configurator to my MacBook?

This worked. Steps:

1) Ensure macOS 14.2.1

2) Via Apple Configurator, Advance -> Revive

That is it.

We went to Apple Store, and to other repair stores, it was zero luck, all suggested to Restore with data loss. But REVIVE works without loss of data on the iPhone.

Why can't Apple Support do it? Even Geek Squad **** in their pants while exposing options on unresponsive screen. This has become a **** show, totally.

Hey there! I am having this issue with my brand new 15 pro max. I went to download the configurator app, and it looks like I am not able to due to my MacBook running macOS 12.7.3 and no further updates are available.

Is there any other way to get this app? Do I need to have my phone connected to the device in order to use it, or can a friend remotely complete the configuring through their computer?

Super frustrated as this phone is BRAND NEW and I don't want to lose all of my data.

Support told me the same (on 17.3.1) - Effectively: "Need to wipe the device, hope you have a backup!"

Thankfully I have a Mac. Thankfully I'm a software engineer by trade and know how these things work. But it's entirely unacceptable that a company such as Apple has such a widespread problem (see this post as evidence) and has YET to fix the issue after several months.

What if I don't have a Mac? "Just go to an Apple Store!" - Easier said than done for many, either due to distance from the Stores, long waits at the store, etc. Also (This is my case) - What if I'm not near an Apple Store? "You can ship the phone in for repair!" - this should never be on the Support Agent's list of things to say to a customer in 2024. You KNOW that is a terrible option.

Absolutely abysmal levels of support and QA on their software for such an expensive device.

I am not sure why people do not read carefully. There is a difference between Restore (what you did) and REVIVE (what you did not do). There are 2 steps you need to follow and I have laid these 2 steps here many times:

1) UPDATE your Mac laptop OS to latest version like 14.x.x

2) In the Apple Configurator, go to advance and select REVIVE

This should fix the problem. If it does not, the post here the EXACT version of your Mac laptop version where Apple Configurator is installed.

For people who do not own a Mac device, they can buy Mac Air cheapest model, update the macOS on it to latest and follow the above steps, and then return the Mac Air back to apple store within 30 days.

This is *not* a valid solution, though it is a valid workaround. Answering “buy a Mac, then mess with Apple Configurator” (a tool that 99.999% of people here will have zero context of or history with) is simply not a valid ask.

Apple needs to step up, admit this is an issue, and fix it. They told me my only option was to literally mail my phone in for “repairs” and that it’d be wiped clean or I’d get a new one. That’s hilariously unacceptable. Thankfully I’m a software engineer by trade, but god help me if my mother across the country hits this issue.
