music just starts playing automatically on my iPhone

Holy crow! I have been having this issue for the LONGEST TIME! I spent hours on the phone with Apple Support being told they never heard of it. I was transferred to some higher level support team who asked me to record when the music plays without the app active. I sent three or for but never heard back so stopped. It’s like I’m forced to listen to the app when any Bluetooth device is connected. It’s still happening. Apple Music is shut down and anytime Bluetooth kicks in, it turns itself on! Always!!!! I

I ~do not~ know how to solve the problem where music plays automatically, but I have noticed that my car does it when my phone connects. It’s the car doing it. I believe it’s downloading the list of songs and playing from its list.

As for the missing AutoPlay button …

If you read my post and the links provided, you would see that it is specific to Bluetooth connections in a vehicle. You have provided no information to refute that. For your situation it may be useful to include the manufacturer of the headphones and if the music starts from Apple Music, Spotify, or Pandora along with the connection type. It would also be helpful to provide any troubleshooting steps that you have already done:

• Did you test with another phone manufacturer to conclude it only happens on iPhone?
• Did you try the AutoPlay setting on Apple Music?
• Do you use any other music app or is it only Apple Music?

I don't have a wired set of headphones to test on my own device, but I'm sure others will be able to provide more insight. It may be best to start a new question as the responses are starting to stray off topic being wired/wireless and headphone/ car audio.

This as helpful, except I just see the crossing arrows and the arrows circling and no infinity sign. I have an iPhone 14 with the latest update

I only see shuffle and repeat. No infinity sign.

I turned OFF Shuffle and Replay options in the Music app. I also went to Settings —> Music —> turned off Show Apple Music (so far it worked but not sure if it’s the solution).

No, there are two symbols on my screen when I do this. There is shuffle and there is replay/loop but there is no infinity symbol. Very frustrating!

Similar issue, no "infinity" sign, but I believe people mean the shuffle and loop signs, make sure they are both *not* enabled like this:

I have a Pixel 8 with the Apple Music app. Same problem occurs. Music starts playing automatically when it connects to my car. Really irritating.

Well, it doesn't happen to my wife with her iPhone when she gets in her car and it doesn't happen to me with my iPhone for work when I connect to the vehicle.

I followed the instruction to turn off the repeat, but it only sets at repeat every and repeat song. When I manage to get it greyed out it turns right back on again 🤦🏻‍♀️

This must be by design by apple for those that are not subscribing to Apple Music to FORCE those users to listen to Apple Music. Just not right!

Go to AirPlay and Handoff settings. At the top of that settings page tap the “automatically AirPlay” setting and toggle to “Off”
