After updating my iPhone 14Pro (17.1.1), on the phone screen the buttons for speaker and mute have been switched. (Who thought this was a good idea?) How can I move them back?

Agreed. I just upgraded last night and I've been putting people on mute all day long, lol. I don't understand what the point was in flipping positions. It would be great if someone from Apple could explain the logic behind it. This annoyance and other issues have me seriously considering a Samsung for my next device.
You can not. Submit feedback to Apple to express your thoughts on it. No guarantee that they will change it but it’s the only way to let them know. I may be in the minority on this but I personally don’t have a problem with the switch. Didn’t take long at all for me to adjust since it’s just a change in memorized location but it seems to be a huge annoyance for some.
I wonder how many times a day I can complain...?!?
When you make a phone call to someone, the full screen of options, including the “speaker” and “mute” buttons should pop up on your screen, they did for me when I did a test call to my husband’s phone. I believe the same should happen when you are receiving a phone call. Good luck.

No one from Apple participates here on this user to user only forum. We don't know why the change has been made, but at least for me, I've now grown so accustomed to it that I can't even really remember how it was previously. I've been on iOS 17 since it was released in September. Some people adapt to change. Some don't. But change is inevitable as that's how it goes with technology. If you think Samsung would better suit your needs, that's what should buy. It doesn't affect anyone here what you think makes the best solution for you. But to think Samsung doesn't change things is an unfortunate assumption. You'll just be upset with them for changing something as opposed to Apple.
