Vibration controls appear to be broke/missing in the 17.1.1 update

Since updating today to 17.1.1, I have two issues:

(1) Every notification, phone call, etc., vibrates the phone. I want to the phone to vibrate only in Silent mode, and it has been the case for every iOS version and every phone since my first iPhone (3GS). This will greatly diminish the battery life. There is no option under Sounds & Haptics to adjust vibration that I can find. The only 'advice' is to completely turn off vibrations, which the documentation states that this will also turn them off in Silent mode, where I want it to vibrate so I know I have notifications when I am in an environment where I don't want the ringer or tones going off.

(2) Under notifications, there is no longer an option to change the default sound for your app notifications. The sound it was changed to is ... quite frankly ... stupid, and will not easily be heard.

Has anyone figured out how to fix these situations? Or is this yet another failure of quality control to ensure that long-time features aren't broke with an update/upgrade?

I HATE this new haptics vibrate. Why can’t you just leave things alone. Give me my old vibrate function back. Quit thinking you’re fixing things when they weren’t broken to begin with. Please. Stop changing so much about the user interface it is EXHAUSTING!

Thank you! I had the same issue as everyone else… my phone is always on silent & only vibrates… the update sets the haptics (wtf) to default, which is barely noticeable but going to the individual settings for ring & txt etc notifications you can change the vibration pattern & even create a custom vibration by tapping the screen… unbelievable that Apple doesn’t have any instructions about this or even anticipated it might be an issue for users

I agree, iOS 17 is super-annoying, especially the predictive text or repositioning the cursor… aargh!

To change your vibration settings go to: settings >> sounds and haptics >> ringtone or text or email etc>> at the top is haptics, you can change the different vibrations or record your own… the default vibration is barely noticeable

Same issue with no vibration for incoming calls or texts on silent mode. I haven't had a sound on my phone in at least a decade or more and don't intend to start now. None of the 'fixes' above have worked; why does apple keep 'fixing' problems that don't exist? This issue is enough for me to switch to Android. Never thought I'd turn into one of 'those' people.

There is no default notification sound option. Only mail (new and sent), voicemail, calendar alerts, reminder alerts, text, and ringtone.

Agree- the simple method/option is now missing & the gentlemen above sent numerous methods that do not apply with the most recent update.

Agree!! The option has been removed yet haptics is set to being always on, etc. There is definitely a system error when they created the new platform.

My phone is now doing the same thing. When making a call, the phone Vibrates as though it is ringing and continues vibrating the entire time you are on the phone.

Turning off the Haptics fixed the issue. I did see that but I had no clue what “haptics” was!!

I am unable to change the intensity on my iPhone

It never vibrates when I get a text or call and the vibrations in general are very loud and I can’t change it
