I had the identical problem immediately after iOS 17.3 update.
To fix it I had quite a struggle but followed these steps:
Reset the iPhone using vol up, vol down and hold the power button. Keep holding the power button held down until PC-wire-iPhone image shown. Connect it to Mac/Pc with iTunes. (I had the phone connected to PC whilst doing the reset sequence)
In iTunes, you should get some prompts about updating/ restoring the iPhone.
follow the steps and after sometime downloading backup and restoring, the phone should be back up. (You should see a small icon in iTunes showing download progress- I got fed-up waiting and went out whilst doing this for the umpteenth time)
It did take me a couple of tries with the reset and the iTunes step (and quite a bit of time for down loads). But I’ve now got my phone back.
Still not 100% sure of the reason why, may be a corrupt backup (and no explanation from apple support) - I had to be put through to a specialist to resolve this, but may be the steps above could spare you this pain :)

Same issue with me, my Iphone 15 Pro and iOS 17.2.1.
Screen displayed but no response at all, charging USB-C did not work.
Racing with 20% batt level, gladfully sucessfully charging by wireless.
5 times reset did not solve.
This happened after previous night update the iOS at 25% battery level.
Went to service center, they solve this problem by resetting the phone, all seemed a new device with all initial application, with the latest iOS.
Hypothesis : The problem caused by corrupted iOS downloaded file.
Automatic installed corrupted iOS update may cause device malfunction.
Suggestion :
Apple should develop checksum and 100% guaranteed iOS update perfect downloaded.
Otherwise, never installed corrupted iOS update.
I ended up taking my locked phone to an authorized Apple store here in Burbank and they reset it, which is no biggie if you're backed up. Entire process took maybe 30 minutes and I was up & running. No charge, which is lucky for Apple. :-)
All the hard reboots in the word didn’t work but I took mine to apple today and after a full restore, both the touch screen issue and charge from usbc was fixed!
The solution for my problem was a restore. Unfortunately the restore didn't work properly at home, but in the Apple Store the restore was successful. Afterwards everything was fine as before :-)
A full restore will do the trick
Same issue with iPhone 15 Pro and iOS 17.2.1
Many hard reboots, but no touch input at all. Also the iPhone doesn't charge using USB-C anymore (0,3 Watt). This cable worked for months and is still working for my iPad.
By using a MagCharger the iPhone is charging.
iOS updates generally aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. Screen Response issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.
This seems purely coincidental so please check the Setting on your device. Adjust how iPhone responds to your touch - Apple Support

I’m having the same issue after updating to 17.2, using 15 pro max. It works and then doesn’t work. I’ll try to skip something, won’t work, but play and pause does. Random but it’s happening consistently.
I just updated my 15 Pro Max and same thing, screen will not respond. Forced restarts and no responses to touch screen. Can’t enter passcode or swipe to power off as I normally can. My work phone is a 15 Pro and no issues with it after software update, so it may just be a 15PM issue🤷🏻♂️
Backup prior is a great tip, however with the screen unresponsive, not able to check the setting on the device as you recommended. Siri will not unlock device and since it is a software update and/or a power cycle Face ID will not engage as you have to enter the passcode first.
sama problem here on a 15 Pro Max
I've done two hard resets and it still won't work.
Same problem, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iOS 17.2.1 no touch screen no charging via USB C
