Okay so this to follow up for the original comment posted on this thread…

I have spoken to the senior technical team for 2 days, and following are the results:

Day 1:

Troubleshooting techniques used during screen sharing session:

  • Turn Off/On ‘Messages in Cloud’ - using settings -> Profile -> iCloud
    • This technique has yielded no difference
  • Sign Out/In from iCloud
    • This technique has yielded no difference
  • Settings -> General -> Background App Refresh = Off
      • After turning off the background spp refresh, try manual ‘Sync’ for ‘Messages in iCloud’
  • As per the technical support team, this has worked for most of the users, but didn’t work out for me.

Day 2:

  • Restore iPhone/iPad using Finder/iTunes
      • Take backup of your iPhone using iCloud or Mac/Windows
      • Post restore set it up as new iPhone.
      • Login to iCloud, finish setting up the phone.
      • Go to ‘Settings’ -> ‘User Name’ -> ‘iCloud’ -> ‘Show all’ -> ‘Messages in iCloud’ ->turn it ‘On’
      • Now let wait for the sync to be complete
      • Intermediately it will show you ‘Syncing paused’ based on the sheet amount of messages already backed up earlier.
  • Try clicking on ‘Sync’ it should resume where it earlier left off.

After this restore, and then manually backing up/sync the Messages in iCloud worked perfectly for me. For other devices such as iPad & Mac the issues persists until you restore it.

It’s been 2 days and the issue hasn’t creeped back yet. Will keep this thread updated if I find something new.

Thats why I refuse to call them with my issue. Usually stuff like this fixes itself eventually on its own. It usually works after like 1 or 2 yrs from my experience with bugs. Like my issue is I dont think texts are being deleted on the server end. I manually delete mine everyday and have them set to keep for 30 days but I still delete them before that. So I think the reason my backup storage keeps increasing on ios 17.2 is because theyre not deleted on the server end. Ive heard it could take anywhere between 4 days-180 days to delete on the server end. So we'll see

Not sure but after speaking to many ppl at apple support I think theres a major issue with the messages app because I think thats whats causing my own issue with the backup storage bug increasing. I noticed in the iphone storage the message app stayed at 70mb for a week then today it recalloberated to 101mb (which I know it goes up and down depending how you use it) so Im thinking thats whats causing the issue in the icloud backup storage because I have deleted texts but I dont think its recallobrated in the cloud perhaps. I hope they fix it but I just keep reporting it.

Having exact same issue since update to iOS 17.2 and recent update to 17.2.1 did not resolve.

Clicking SYNC NOW does nothing.

Changing settings per other posts below does nothing.

Apple, please pay attention and fix this!

Why are Voicemails and Messages still the most difficult data to back-up on these devices?

It's been 30 fraggin' years since the invention of mobile phones, and this data has always been the most valuable.

Sure, Photos/Videos are extremely valuable, but easily back-up to various clouds.

Messages and VMs have always been a PITA to save.

Tried and did not experiencing any changes on my end. Syncing resumes for under a minute, then goes back to

Syncing Paused even with phone plugged into power, with Background App Refresh Off, and phone on wifi (also tested wifi off and on cellular). No difference.

APPLE FIX THIS ALREADY, IT'S BEEN HAPPENING FOR THREE STRAIGHT iOS UPDATES!

How much longer will we wait?

We should get free iCloud plus plans for a year for this nonsense!!

What are we paying for if our iCloud data isn't syncing?
