iOS 17.2 WiFi connectivity issues

I updated to iOS 17.2 and have been experiencing WiFi connectivity problems and related speed problems. I can usually “fix” this by powering my phone off (iPhone 13 pro max). Sometimes I have to power off more than once. WiFi calling also seems to be having issues (randomly not working). Anyone else having either of these issues?

Same issue on a 14 ProMax. WiFi keeps dropping out for no reason. Every other device is connected with no issue. Including multiple Apple TVs, other iPhones, iPads and Macs. Highly frustrating especially since 17.2 was supposed to FIX these issues.

My wife didn’t upgrade her iPhone 14 Pro Max and she still gets 60 MBPS, all I had to do was turn off (Limit IP Address Tracking) with this toggled back off I now get the same speed that I had before the latest update. Click (Settings) Click (Wi-Fi) Click (Network) toggle off (Limit IP Address Tracking) for me this put me back at 60 MBPS with that on I couldn’t get more than 12 MBPS after the latest IOS update. It felt like I had dial up from the Nineties!

Ouf! After the no or extremely poor wifi since last update, I am back online! After a lots of frustration, I simply logged in my router as admin and did a ping test. Seems that simple thing worked for everyone in the household. And on top of that the annoying popup boxes are gone! Worked for me

ipad 6th gen running 17.2

iphone Xr running Ios 17.2.1

ipad 9th gen running 17.2

iphone 11 running 17.2.1

router nighthawk R8000 firmware v1.0.4.84

… and an android phone that never had any issues

>>In the middle, you should see "WiFi 6E mode" - change it from automatic to off. I have done this and the results have been excellent so far. Sev11 is right.

The problem is the Wi-Fi V6 standard. It turned out not to be as easy as suggested by just pressing the i in the circle, and finding a switch to turn off Wi-Fi V6. In my case I had to go to the router settings and realize that the 8.02B/G/N ax standard is Wifi v6. Had to google that. When I went to just regular BGN, I was good. Problems disappeared.

I'm on an iPhone 7 Plus on iOS 15.8 and for the past month or so I've been getting constant WiFi drops. I notice that often the IP address my router assigns is way off the normal 192.168.1.x range. I have to turn WiFi off and on a few times until it gets a normal IP address and then it might work for a while, but then drop again, even whilst I'm actively using WiFi and not moving.

I've checked the distance from the router, disabled 5G, turned off private browsing, IPv6. Things seem to work, but it might be me just being lucky for a few moments, and then it all reverts back to being broken again.

I've also noticed that when switching on my PC it can instantly knock my iPhone WiFi connection off, even though the PC is on Ethernet and doesn't have a WiFi adapter as though it connecting to the router causes enough to de-stable the iPhone.

I've had the phone since launch (2016) and the router about the same amount of time and it's worked fine until now.

I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max

Since all of the iOS 17 updates, including current iOS 17.2.1, I have horrible cell(Verizon)reception and my device download speed is 2 Mbps even though my WiFi speed is running at 1312 mbps.

I’ve closed apps, turned phone off and back on, deleted internet and cookie history etc. And I’ve only used about half of my 512GB of memory. Phone has never been like this.

Mean my iPad 7 is working fine on the latest update.

Not sure if this will help anyone else, but I've found that the iPhone/iPad in particular have a very sensitive-to-interference WiFI network adaptor. I've been struggling with this for a while, but have solved the problem for me, anyway. I have 2.4 Ghz and 5 GHz being broadcast over the same SSID. It didn't matter which bands the iPhone grabbed, I was getting awful performance (single digit Mbps down and up). I know all 2.4 Ghz bands are saturated around me, but I was puzzled on the 5 Ghz. In any case, I changed the 5 GHz channel from the default of 32 (5180 MHz) to 149 (5745 MHz) and voila, the iPhone's WiFi is blazing fast.

This may also explain why others experience it and others don't. Different devices respond to RF / WiFI interfence (this increasingly becoming an issue) differently, it all depends on the network interface adaptor. Some are more resilient than others.

I may have found a solution. Wife and I both have 13's. I have the last iOS 16 update and she is currently on 17.2. She is having issues with loading over our home WiFi.

We had tried:

  • Resetting Network settings
  • Turned off Limit IP Tracking
  • Updating (On-going issues since 17.0 was released)
  • SIM card
  • Factory Reset
  • Carrier settings
  • Modem/Router resets and contacting the internet provider

I had an idea to try and split my bands. We tried with her connecting to 24.Ghz and it was still giving issue. Once we got her on the 5Ghz band, the issues seems to have resolved. I hope this software issue is fixed with coming updates, because this is absolutely ridiculous. It's been on-going since November and it's clearly a widespread issue.

I'm not sure if this is one of those temporary fixes that seem to stop working after a few hours/days, so if it fails, I'll update this comment.
