iOS 17.2 WiFi connectivity issues

I updated to iOS 17.2 and have been experiencing WiFi connectivity problems and related speed problems. I can usually “fix” this by powering my phone off (iPhone 13 pro max). Sometimes I have to power off more than once. WiFi calling also seems to be having issues (randomly not working). Anyone else having either of these issues?

Not sure if this will help anyone else, but I've found that the iPhone/iPad in particular have a very sensitive-to-interference WiFI network adaptor. I've been struggling with this for a while, but have solved the problem for me, anyway. I have 2.4 Ghz and 5 GHz being broadcast over the same SSID. It didn't matter which bands the iPhone grabbed, I was getting awful performance (single digit Mbps down and up). I know all 2.4 Ghz bands are saturated around me, but I was puzzled on the 5 Ghz. In any case, I changed the 5 GHz channel from the default of 32 (5180 MHz) to 149 (5745 MHz) and voila, the iPhone's WiFi is blazing fast.

This may also explain why others experience it and others don't. Different devices respond to RF / WiFI interfence (this increasingly becoming an issue) differently, it all depends on the network interface adaptor. Some are more resilient than others.

For the past two weeks, I have been in contact with TP-Link Deco Wi-Fi engineers, explaining the issues and providing logs from the router. They have now identified that these issues occur when the device attempts to switch from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz or 6 GHz on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. They have also tested other Apple devices (non-iPhone), such as the Apple TV and MacBook, and have confirmed that this issue does not occur on them. They are currently working with the Apple support team to determine whether this is a software or hardware issue. The devices are struggling to switch frequencies smoothly, resulting in disconnection from the router. Hopefully, a solution can be found soon. TP-Link's R&D team has been working on recreating the issues and has successfully done so. They will be presenting their findings to Apple.

I think I resolved it. After a lot of messing around with settings on both the router and iPhone (7+ iOS 15) it's working again. Not sure what the exact fix was and I'm hesitant to go back prodding, but I think it might be turning off 5GHz on my router and using 2.4GHz only.

I think someone mentioned that the update could be due to iOS failing to switch between 5GHz and 2.4GHz, so I just locked it to one. I left all the other settings OFF IPv6, private IP.

Since then it's picked a sensible IP address each time and connected no matter what else is going on with my local network.

I hope they fix this issue though, it's been fine for 6+ years on this phone and router combo.

*** POSSIBLE SOLUTION for WiFi problems! For iphone 15 pro models … After consulting with Apple and my router company, I discovered a potential solution. Go to Settings, select WiFi, then press the little "i" in the circle on the right side of your connected WiFi. In the middle, you should see "WiFi 6E mode" - change it from automatic to off. I have done this and the results have been excellent so far. I will continue to keep you updated. (If this is the problem, Apple really needs to address and fix it.)

Iphone 15 pro max and ios 17.2 definitely has wifi bugs! On settings- wifi shows I am connected to the wifi but on top right side of screen it shows 5g no wifi connection and my performance is dropping so its using 5g… means how I am maybe 15 feet from the tp link wifi 7 deco 16000 mesh unit… smh ios 17 has been a big disappointment honestly so far

I got this wifi problem 3 days ago on my iPhone 11 and I thought something's wrong with the hardware. Then I upgraded it to iPhone 12. Same thing!

My problem: It (my iPhone 11 or iPhone12) can intermittently connect to my mesh network (1x ASUS TUF GAMING AX4200 + 1x ASUS RT-AX57). 90% it fails! It can acquire the IP but most of the time (after waiting for tens of minutes) "Router", which is supposed to by the main router's IP, is empty; if it's not empty, then "No internet" appears under my Wifi name (with a tick indicating Wifi connection is established).

Tries:

  1. Disable Wifi 6 on my network
  2. Disable Limit Address Tracking and/or Private Wifi Address on my iPhone
  3. Reset my iPhone's Network settings
  4. Reboot my iPhone

NONE WORK!!!! The circle next to my Wifi name just turns around and around!

Apple is becoming worse and worse... So frustrated!

I have the same problem with my new 15 Pro. We have poor 4G coverage in the house so I rely on wifi calling and it’s useless unless I’m standing next to a router. Totally unacceptable for such an expensive device. Wish I still had my old 11. My partner can sit next to me with an old 11 working perfectly while my 15 Pro has no connection to anything. I’ve tried the fixes mentioned above but don’t seem to have the same options available to enable/disable.

I'm on an iPhone 7 Plus on iOS 15.8 and for the past month or so I've been getting constant WiFi drops. I notice that often the IP address my router assigns is way off the normal 192.168.1.x range. I have to turn WiFi off and on a few times until it gets a normal IP address and then it might work for a while, but then drop again, even whilst I'm actively using WiFi and not moving.

I've checked the distance from the router, disabled 5G, turned off private browsing, IPv6. Things seem to work, but it might be me just being lucky for a few moments, and then it all reverts back to being broken again.

I've also noticed that when switching on my PC it can instantly knock my iPhone WiFi connection off, even though the PC is on Ethernet and doesn't have a WiFi adapter as though it connecting to the router causes enough to de-stable the iPhone.

I've had the phone since launch (2016) and the router about the same amount of time and it's worked fine until now.

I am using a 14plus, IOS 17.2.1.

I have also been working with TP Link related to issues with the Deco BE16000. I can connect to my main router without issues, but when I move throughout the house (and near one of the other nodes) I get disconnected. Attempts to reconnect are met with "incorrect password" and the only solution is to return to the main Deco where I reconnect without any issues (and without entering the password).

TP Link has been very helpful, and I'll have my third remote session with them early next week. We've tried lots of things and I currently have USB's plugged into 2 of the nodes to (hopefully) document when/why the issue persists.

I did NOT have this issue with my Wifi 6e mesh routers - only after I upgraded to Wifi7.

I was excited (not really) to see that I wasn't the only person having issues. I'll provide an update early next week.
