Weird, please do the following:

It will help us get a good idea of what is causing your problem if you provide a report of your system, that way we do not have to play 20 questions with you. The report we are requesting does NOT provide any personal information and is extremely safe to use. Please navigate to www.Etrecheck.com and download the free version of EtreCheck. Once you have you downloaded the app and installed it, please run the report and save it. This report will help us get a good idea what has been installed on your system and help us be able to diagnose what may be wrong.

When you have your report, you can attach it when you reply to this message and we can then review it and help you determine what is needed to get your system running well again.

For instructions on how to download your EtreCheck report and attach it to your reply to this message please click How to use the Add Text Feature When Post… - Apple Community It is helpful to us if you download the report to your Desktop.

And you are wise to be. But this app is recommended and used here multiple times every day, and is created by a person who has been posting one here to help others for many many years. By all means search the forum for mentions of the app and you'll see what I mean.

In the meantime: What does

my Word files changed to Adobe

actually mean? Do you mean the files only open in an Adobe app? If so, Which one? If not, then what do you mean? Has the icon on the file changed? Has the file suffix changed or are they still .doc or .docx? Select one of the afftemed files and go File -> Get Info. What app is set to open the file? If it's not Word, can you change that?

The files have all changed from the color blue with a W at the top right to red with the Adobe symbol.

When I open them they all open in full screen size and the Adobe Reader appears at the top left of the screen where the word Word use to appear.

Went to the Get info, Adobe Reader DC was selected.

Clicked on that box to see what others were available.

Word wasn't listed, so I selected "Other" and then Microsoft Office, then Word.

Clicked on Change all and tried to open a file.

That opened another box titled Convert From, with many offerings.

Tried many of them but when I opened a file, it was gibberish, not the original document.

Sorry don't see where .doc or .docx are located

Understood, EtreCheck is an extremely safe app and was developed by a contributing member of these communities. If you don't want to use it, that's totally okay but there isn't too much we can do without know what may have been installed on the computer, also please remember EtreCheck reports do not contain any personal information.
