Preferences error: Could not load Security & Privacy preference pane

I'm using Catalina on a 2015 27" iMac and when I click the Security & Privacy icon in Preferences, I get this error. Any advice on what to do here? Thanks.

catalina preference security privacy Currently I have an iMac 10.15.7 with the problem “unable to open the “security and privacy” preference tab” I summarize below the various tests that were undertaken. When I try to modify my system preferences and more specifically those concerning security and confidentiality. I get the message: “Could not load Security & Privacy preference”. However, from the command line: :; tccutil reset All Successfully reset All I remove file : ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist I used SOS on the 2 partitions (system and data) of my disk, I used onyx. I reloaded Catalina. I still get the same message “Could not load Security & Privacy preference pane. » Following your advice, on my iMac, I created a new 'test' administrator and logged in with this new account. The problem persists. Then, in recovery mode, rm /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/Library/Application\ Support/com.apple.TCC/TCC.db and reboot The problem persists Then : sudo diskutil resetUserPermissions / `id -u` [...] Ready to reset user permissions on disk2s5 Interne Started verify/repair permissions on disk2s5 Interne User permissions have been reset Finished verify/repair permissions on disk2s5 Interne [~]:; tccutil reset All Successfully reset All Then : rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.plist rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.revocation.plist Insufficient, The problem persists Finally, I wiped and deleted the internal drive then reinstalled Catalina then migrated from Time Machine. The original question is from over two years ago; I finally solved this problem a couple of weeks ago. Here are my notes: THE PROBLEM: I'm using my Mac mini 6,2 (Late 2012) with macOS 10.15.7 (and its Security Updates), the latest OS this model can use. When I try to launch the Security & Privacy System Preference, I always get a spinning wait cursor. All of System Preferences becomes unusable. Force-quitting System Preferences is the only way to get out and return to System Preferences. I tried literally every possible solution I could find on the Internet, including reformatting and reinstalling the OS several times over the years, and have had no luck. My SOLUTION: 1. I started up my Mac from a drive that was not my Main Drive. 2. I reformatted my Main Drive. 3. I used Apple's macOS Recovery over the internet to reinstall a fresh copy of the latest version of macOS that's compatible with my 2012 Mac mini (10.15.7) — onto my Main Drive. 4. I restarted the Mac using my Main Drive as the startup Disk. And here, I learned, is the ULTIMATE, NECESSARY STEP that's the entire key to all of the problems I had been having with this Mac: I did NOT install the Apple Security Updates that my Mac then wanted me to install. By not allowing that install, I was FINALLY able to access the MOST INCREDIBLY CRUCIAL SYSTEM PREFERENCE which is the secret to almost everything on the Mac, including installing much software: the SECURITY & PRIVACY System Preference. IMHO, there is something amiss in those Security Updates that screws up the Security & Privacy System Preference. I hope not installing the Security Updates doesn't cause problems down the road but I seem to have no choice in the matter. Now all I have to do is ignore the constant whining of my Mac trying to get me to install those updates. For the (hopefully) few of you with this problem, I hope this helps.

What does the error message say..?

Maybe try in Safe Mode, as per > Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support
