Solved my problem after 8 hours of troubleshooting! After the 17.2.1 update, my iPhone 14 Pro Max would not send or receive calls and got hot from accelerated battery drain. First AppleCare walked me through hardware diagnostics, network resets, backups and restores but the problem persisted. Next, Verizon helped me with a new eSIM, but the problem continued. Next, I focused on my company's corporate software, because I was intrigued by the VPN discussion in this forum. While I don't use a VPN, my iPhone is managed by my company's installation of Microsoft InTune, which I noticed (Settings:General:VPN & Device Mgmt) had a signing certificate (IOSProfileSigning.manage.microsoft.us) that had expired December 12, 2023. To test this theory, I removed this Management software and my phone's cellular calls worked perfectly again! So for the final steps, I worked with my company's IT department to reinstall the Management software, which has an updated IOS signing certificate, and the phone is now back to normal. Sharing in case others find my painful tech journey useful.

Exact same issue after upgrade to 17.2.1.

I use t-Mobile. I spoke with their support and also brought the phone to the store.

They replaced the SIM twice, first with an eSim and then with a brand new SIM card at the store.

No VPN profile installed. Still no IP on personal hotspot. Only infrequent internet on the phone. Most of the time I get a message that says I need to activate cellular data with my provider, even while the connection shows 4 bars of 5Guc.

Opened a ticket with Apple and sent diagnostic logs.

A major inconvenience over a busy travel season.

Interesting. My experience with the t-Mobile Store was that they had no explanation or solution. They couldn't get the cellular data connection to work.

That might be because T-Mobile stores have no qualified techs in them, only sales people, just like Verizon and AT&T. For T-Mobile and any other US carrier you are better off calling to speak to tech support than going to a store, and asking the CSR to escalate your issue to a real tech.

Same, this happened to me yesterday (1st Jan) which is a week after I upgraded the software. I went to my phone carrier (Three Mobile in U.K) which normally messes things up but after a few attempts with new SIM cards, it was evident that it was a device issue rather than a network issue. I went to the Apple store and they informed me that I need to buy a new phone as the one I am using is a four years old device :-/ I refuse to agree that I need to purchase a new handset after four years, especially if I spend the money I do buying from Apple. I need my celluar reception for my business, it is harmful not having it. Apple is loosing its status and I am not sure what to do....

I would look at your battery health chart and see which apps are responsible for the rapid draining of your battery.

Check for screen on times vs screen off times.

Turning off background app refresh always can help, never hurts performance.

If all else fails attempt to restore device back to factory settings before booking an appointment for the Genius Bar.

After two weeks. I’m using an old phone because my 13 pro max still won’t work. Here’s what Ive learned.

  • It’s likely an Apple issue. Not the carrier.
  • Apple says it’s a carrier issue. Verizon says it’s an Apple issue.
  • Mine is strictly cellular service dropping resulting in an exclamation point in a triangle where the service bars are. WiFi still works.
  • Has anyone determined if it’s only affecting 5G phones?

Last night Apple tried to do a hard push for the 17.2 update on another phone of mine which maybe they did with many others. This might help us by having more people with the same issue.

Same here… My iPhone 11 S was working fine until the recent update,

and now I am having a whole assortment of issues with texting androids, sending pictures, and calling…and

people telling me about messages that I never received… I have lost money because of these messages…

it just goes in and out it will be fine and then for hours I won’t be able to do anything and just have to wait…??

My GPS and other apps will work when I’m driving and then all of a sudden they just won’t…. then it tells me to connect Wi-Fi in order to make work??

meanwhile, I’m going 65 miles an hour trying to figure out what exit to take….??? WTF apple??!

as a lifelong Apple user, I can say that if this problem isn’t remedied soon, and I have to get a new phone, I will not be buying another iPhone.

Will they fix those cellular network connective problems WiFi problems etc in iOS 17.3 when it come out?
it goes from 3 to 4 bars sometimes it goes from 4 bars to 3 bars sometimes disconnects for 10 -30 seconds then reconnects

That is a symptom of a corrupt VPN profile, so if you use VPN go to Settings/General/VPN & Device Management/VPN and delete the VPN profile.
