iPhone 14 became unresponsive after iOS 17.2.1 update

I am facing the same issue on my iPhone 13 Pro Max, especially with the iMessages (takes inordinately long or freezes completely). Even the settings app hangs sometimes...

My husband downloaded the 17.2.1 update today at 11am and it is now 5pm and his phone has been unresponsive since. His phone got stuck in the update screen so he did the reset and it showed us a white loading screen that never completed.

He called apple customer service and they pretty much told us that we’re screwed. They gave us one more thing to try which was plug the phone in to the computer and try to do a recovery that way but the tech said that if that doesn’t work then we’re screwed and have to purchase a new phone.

I should probably add that we just purchased this phone (13 pro) so buying another one is completely out of the cards for us. I really wish apple would help more over this situation since this is the update they sent to our phones. We’re extremely stressed out over this but hopefully what the tech told us to try will work, if not I don’t know what we’re gonna do.

Same issues with my 12ProMax. After the most recent update to iOS 17.2.1 there are noticeably significant problems now. Initially I thought it was in my head or just off a day or two but no definitely not. I have restart my phone several times a day. At times it hardly picks up the wifi signal yet my other devices show a strong connection when I run a test. The phone lags in a major way and frequently. The screen dims randomly, it’s not the setting. I even transferred 80% of the files that were taking up storage to iCloud. I hate to complain but it’s irritating to think I’m going to have to trade in a phone that’s barely two years old along with costing $1200.

My iphone 13 pro on 17.2.1 update hangs and stalls after update, especially when syncing (or linking) contacts. Have used iPhone since 2012. Now finding more difficult to justify the expense. Get this fixed please

Same here! I wish we still have the ability to delete or refuse unwanted updates, but how would Verizon continue to convince us that we need a new and better phone and that we must upgrade so they can make more money if they didn’t intentionally destroy our $899 phones just a little at a time. Yeah Verizon! I see you!!!

I commented on this post, relating to intune. With devices we manage, I think it is the contacts sync that causes issues. If you remove a device from intune, it will probably not be exporting all the contacts to the device, so I would expect you would no longer see the issue. I could be wrong in your case, but worth a look.

Actually went through setup of 17.3.1 iPhone (reset via configurator last week) and can't replicate the issue, as in when I force duplication, WhatsApp doesn't suffer and phones isn't heating up. Annoying! Will have to check with users this week.

I have seen some work done with duplicate contacts still there, working with one that has almost 40k contacts (10 times what it should be), but the sluggishness remains. Getting them to try and remove all the contacts (don't trust any third party app and tested a couple to no avail) that were synced from outlook. Hoping this works, but will probably try the full reset and re-enrollment if it does not.

I've noticed most issues being where users have shared and delegate inboxes in outlook.

I called Apple as I have a brain injury & have to use a walker. I can’t walk & hold the iPhone 14. It will not take calls using headphones only on speaker. Nobody can fix the issue. It also drops the call in the middle of your conversation. What are we supposed to do? Apple fix iy

I have under 30 and still am save problems. Can’t hear calls/person can’t hear me unless on speaker. Also phone keeps dropping my calls. It’s not my headphones. I can hear everything else through them but calls. Apple broke it they need to fix the problem.

I'm facing the same issues, iOS 17.2.1 broken iPhone 12 Pro sensor at all, it become totally unresponsive! How to solve it? Does anybody know?

I've tried a few variants to solve it programmatically, lots of reboots, and lots of hard resets with full data erase, but the only way that has helped me is total display replacement to the new one.
