How can I disable voice message feature?

How can I turn off voice messaging inside iMessage? I’m not talking about dictation. That setting is off. I mean the ability to accidentally hit the sound icon to the right side of the message prompt. It is way too easy to accidentally hit that while reading someone’s message and then randomly sending them everything my mic pics up.

There is no option to completely remove the red icon beside the message field. However, it would be convenient to have an option to turn it off completely, as I also sometimes mistakenly start a voice recording. What you can do to lessen the chances of accidentally recording a voice message is to turn off the Raise to Listen option, or turn on the Dictation option, which will replace the red icon with a microphone. This microphone icon is not easily triggered, and you have to hold it down. For the steps, you can also read this guide for more information on the issue: Fix Automatic Audio Recordings in iMessage

It takes literally 5 seconds to read the first post and understand that we aren’t talking about voice dictation here. No offense to you but you are the 800th person to get downvoted because they are telling us how to turn off the wrong thing because they aren’t reading and just assuming they know the answer.

Downvote applied….

As there far fewer than 800 people have posted in this thread, that seems unlikely.

I am having this issue as well, sending unintended voice messages. I do not want to turn off dictation because I often send messages through Car Play. However, this morning someone informed me that they received an audio message from me and sent me a screen shot of our message stream showing this message. However, IT DOESN'T SHOW UP IN MY MESSAGE STRING. So how many of these have gone out without my knowledge. This is unacceptable Apple and a clear violation of my privacy rights.

A couple of months ago I thought I would experiment to have my iPhone do some fancy stuff and then I lost track of what I changed in my system settings and what you described happened to me. After pulling my hair out and fighting with it for a month I finally found this problem solving log and here is what I found (it took me 2 hours) I FINALLY noticed a small icon on the top of my iPhone (see pic) that was not there before.

I did some research on it...turned it off and voila!!! I do not have your above problem anymore! Not sure this helps for everyone...but it helped me. Good luck

Several times per day I find that iMessages has been recording and I find I need to delete a sound message. I do use dictation because it is much quicker way of getting text into a message than any other method. However, I never send voice text so I would really appreciate a way to turn that feature off completely.

Who has time to listen to voice messages these these days?

The voice mail feature can become a liability for apple. I sent a message unknowingly and it was hurtful. It’s not fair for you to force this down someone’s throat without an out. Does privacy really matter to Apple?

How is it Apple's fault you tapped the send button without looking to see what you were sending?

Completely agree! Yes I can turn on dictation and the microphone appears and it makes it harder to inadvertently send a voice message! But I want it gone completely! Apple used to be the most user friendly, but sadly it’s becoming more and more difficult! I hate the new update for the watch as well, I can no longer drag the menu from the top to easily turn off the notifications!

What they’re doing is toggle Ong dictation back on. This changes the red “voice recognition”/“voice message” into the microphone once again. Apparently, all of us who tried to get rid of them microphone last time just got blitzed by the red lines on the newest update. Apple really wants to spy on us and trigger these dumb voice messages. What an infuriatingly user-unfriendly feature. Apple needs to fix this.
