After update, Apple Pay says my card is expiring, but it is not

Why did the new update make Apple think my Apple Pay acct think my card is expired ? It won’t expire for two years, and now I can’t use Apple Pay for anything.

iPhone 7, iOS 14

The problem is Apple Pay/Wallet lost the last 2-digits of our expiration dates. It’s only reading the “20xx” and lost the last 2-digits.

Unfortunately this iOS will not let you edit the card info, EVEN if your card number has not changed (like if you got the new one in mail with simply a new exp date!!!).

SOOOOO, you have to DELETE the card then add it back in using the “MM/YYYY” format and it then works!

I just found a solution in another thread and it worked for me. I just tried by making a game purchase and success. Go to settings; Apple ID, media and purchases, then payment and shipping. Remove your card and re-add. It worked for me. I then linked the card from there. Apparently you can’t do it from Apple Wallet. Good luck I hope this works for you and everyone else who reads this. It’s been a headache for the last 3 days.

I finally got it!

I added a second card.

removed it from the Apple ID payment.

also went into wallet and removed it

turned the phone off, turned it back on

added the card manually (with the 4 digit year expiration) and then back to the wallet

this time I had no issue linking it and it works now! Before I could add it again but not link it (forgot it was still in the wallet)

So it’s been doing this to me too even though my card doesn’t expire until November of this year. I went into my Apple ID> Media, and purchases > manage payments. I deleted my card and tried to add it back in, and it said that the expiration date cannot be in the past. Instead of just writing the last two digits of the year like 24, I put in 2024 the second time and it fixed it. For some reason with the new update, it’s requiring you to actually put the 20 in front of the two digits even though it does not show a four digit year on cards. Then, as someone else said, I simply linked it to Apple Pay.

Hello all, I just got off the phone with apple and it is in deed a glitch on their end. However, I was able to fix this by putting in a new card just so I could get rid of my card with the error. It then gave me the ability to delete my old card. So then I could re-uploaded my regular card (and deleted the new card I just put in) and it worked like a charm. It seems like an unnecessary amount of work, but it did fix the problem.

As I posted earlier, I had the same problem and it wouldn’t let me remove or re-add my card. I did fix it by first adding a different card. That allowed me to delete my original card. Then I was able to re-add my original card. What I found was that when I added the card using the camera there were no spaces between the numbers in the account and it didn’t like that. It kept rejecting the new card for unknown reasons until I manually entered the number where it automatically spaced where the spaces should be. But they need to fix the glitch not only to avoid headaches for people but for people who don’t have a second card they could do that with.

The method described here several times - of adding an additional card, then deleting the valid but incorrectly shown as expired card, then re-adding that card - works. However, there are two subtleties I have discovered but haven't seen described (or sufficiently emphasized) here: (1) you must re-add your valid card on your device, not on your Mac - the latter (via the Music app) is refusing to validate my card, and (2) you must re-add your valid card using Settings > Wallet and Apple Pay, not Wallet > Add to Wallet. The latter method gives you only a selector UI to choose the year, and it fails. The former method (via Settings) lets you manually enter a 4-digit year (or you can scan your card, which worked for me), and it succeeds.

I was able to fix mine. What you have to do is add another card. When adding make sure to put the 2 digit month and 2 digit year on the date. Then you can delete your original card. One deleted you can then add it back but make sure to use the 2 digit month and 4 digit year. One you add your original card back you can delete the other card if you want. Hope this makes sense.

I had the same problem with a card that hadn't expired. I think the problem is that only 2 digits were previously required for the year of expiration and now 4 digits are required. I was having the same frustrations where I couldn't delete it and reenter it. That is until I finally added another card that I didn't really plan to use for Apple Pay. Then I was able to delete my preferred card and reenter it. Be careful not to use the photo option to capture your card if only a 2 digit year shows on our card. Once this was done, I deleted the extra card I had added.
