Migrating an old iMac to a new Mac Studio

I had to cancel the migration from my old iMac to my new Mac Studio in the middle of the transfer? I was taking way too long.

I used an Ethernet cable, and showed 85+ hrs for the transfer at less then 10mb/sec.

I left it run over night and all day today. Tonight it read 113 hrs to transfer!! So I cancelled it.

note: I have a partition on the old iMac to hold two independent work situations including running 2 separate creative cloud software packages (one is personal and one is work) to avoid conflicts of interest. I was able to bring each partitioned account in as separate user accounts (I have not partitioned the Studio, so I don’t know if the independent CC softare packages will each work?)

Back to the main concern:

I bought a thunderbolt cable so I can make this go faster but the question is: can I start where it left off? Or do I have to erase the studio and start over?

  • if I have to erase, does the OS remain and does it still keep everything including the apps that came installed when I ordered it?
  • what will happen if I don’t erase?

Help!

thanks in advance.
