Instead go to the support link for gmail: go to mail.google.com and click on the “?” at the top right.

Hi - not sure if this was resolved but I followed commenter JDPell suggestion and it worked - quoted it below for reference if someone runs into the same problem again. For me, I logged into my Gmail through Chrome app and it gave an option to send a code via text and then I was able to get into the Gmail app afterwards. Hope it helps for anyone else. Thanks JDPELL!

Same problem here and you don't need your old iphone. GMAIL is in the cloud so any other device with GMAIL will receive the authenticator prompt.

What worked for us.

1. Delete the GMAIL app from the home screen of the new iphone and re-installed it from the APPS store.
2. Update the Google Chrome APP if it needs it.
3. Once installed open GMAIL APP and sign in.
4. The authenticator prompt should appear on any other device which has GMAIL ie. PC , ipad etc (no need for old iphone).
5. Select YES it was you and gmail will then be available on the new iphone.

However, as KiltedTim pointed out, this is not an Apple problem. And walking away from both companies might be more challenging than you think.

I have two Gmail accounts on my iPhone running iOS 18. No problems.

Why are you telling us? This is a google problem, not an Apple problem.

There is no "war" between Apple and Google. Your problem is 100% google related.

We’re you using an authenticator app or receiving the codes via text?

If app then you may be able to recover the entries if the app had been set to back up to iCloud. If via text then you’ll need to use one of your recovery codes to sign in & change the recovery information.

Just experienced the same issue. Went on y Google account from Laptop (click on your top right account icon).

under Security, go down to How you sign in to Google, and turn off the 2 Steps Verification. Was then able to set up the app/acount on Iphone with just the password.

Ive just upgraded to an iPhone 15 pro max and have had the same issues. Ive had to create a new email address but i found that if i logged into it on my MacBook I could turn of the two step verification which then logged into all my google accounts on my iPhone. Im well chuffed and Ive turned it back on again, thanks for all your help everyone

I am experiencing the same when I changed my phone to 15. And it’s getting me so annoyed right now. I really need to log in into my gmail account but it’s always asking me the useless procedures. Anybody who can help please?

Can’t login to my gmail account because it says I need to get verification code from my authentication app but I don’t have that setup nor did I set it up s else must’ve done that so how do I get verification codes sent to my phone

Today I got a new iphone 15 to replace my iphone 11 and while signing into my gmail account, google said the first option was to go into gmail on my phone and type in the two-number code given to me in a supposed email they sent, but i couldn't access said "sent" email because i wasn't logged into my account, so I tried to use my computer and went to g.co/verifyaccount, which was the secondary option if the first one didn't work, and when i went to that website on my computer, it only gave me the same problem with a code i needed to type in from an email they would send me. I tried accessing that email by going into gmail on my computer which is already signed in, and the email wasnt sent to it, supposedly only my phone gmail which i cant access. I saw some replies which apparently worked that said to go to "Manage your google account" and sign out of the old phone, which is what i did, but that didnt work either, so i am stuck in an endless loop with no solutions
