My iphone is 17.3. MyiPad is 17.2 Since the update on my iPhone, both want a password for Mail Exchange account. When I enter it, it asks again. I have logged into Outlook on my Mac via the web and no issues. Help please.

This information is not addressing the issue entirely. Not everyone has 2-step authentication turned on, and yet the same problematic password issue arises.

I have read that Microsoft now requires 2 factor authentication for Exchange ActiveSync accounts. So if you don’t have 2 FA set up that in itself is the problem. And the requirement was added around the same time 17.3 was released (actually, about week before 17.3 was released), which is why it appears to be due to 17.3. But it isn’t, it is a Microsoft problem.

This is the 2nd time this has happened with my Microsoft email on Apple products. I’ve already fixed it AGAIN this time. It’s really not up to me to fix this, and I don’t care to know exactly what the issue is. I spend a lot of money with Apple, and absolutely LOVE Apple. They make everything very easy. There has to be a solution that Apple can implement for this so that it doesn’t happen anymore. Again, don’t care to know exactly what the issue is. Just fix it so it works.

I have same problem after updating

What you really have is the same problem after Microsoft changed their supported authentication methods, a few days before Apple released iOS 17.3. If you go back and read the thread you posted to you will see suggestions from people who resolved the problem using Microsoft’s support center.

Thank you, sn0ck. It is apparently coincidence that Microsoft added required 2 factor authentication about the same time that Apple released the latest update.

There is another option, and that is to use either Passkeys (which both Apple and Microsoft support) or hardware security keys→About Security Keys for Apple ID - Apple Support, which both Apple and Microsoft also support. Both of these options can replace passwords entirely.

I had the identical problem just before I updated to 17.3 and it continued after the update. I was able to work around it by creating a new account using outlook instead of Exchange for mail default and phone has worked fine since. However, I also got requests for Exchange password on my laptop for email. I entered it once as well as checking box to remember credentials. When the message pops up requesting password, I just go into mail and click on the "need password" message and it resolves. It's clumsy but gets around issue. There appears to be an issue with iOS and Microsoft interface causing this on Apple and PC devices.

It is a Microsoft issue. There are other posts in this thread that have links to the Microsoft support threads, so go and read the previous pages of the thread to get the answer.

The same problem here. Definitely a problem since the update to 17.3.
I still have my old iPhone running on 17.2.1 here, which works perfectly. Same problem on my wife's iPhone (17.3).
However, I have not activated 2FA. I use the Apple Mail app and my mailbox is configured as an exchange mailbox.

It is definitely a MICROSOFT problem. Microsoft has said so. It is coincidence that Microsoft’s system broke around the same time as Apple released 17.3; I have seen posts from users who said the problem started BEFORE they updated, and they were hoping the update would fix the problem.
