Using new 4K Apple TV connected to Yamaha receiver, getting cycling picture of normal screen for about 5 seconds and then fuzzy screen for about 2 seconds, and repeats indefinitely. Did this before, and then corrected itself after switching out HDMI cable. Now after a couple weeks, doing it again. Have tried switching HDMI cables again. Problem persisting.

Does the issue also presents itself when bypassing the Yamaha receiver? (I.e. direct to TV?)
If not, then the issue must be in the extra component or cables. Then should help find what needs changing (settings or hardware), and what can be regarded as OK. What is the model Yamaha receiver?
Is the repeating behavior on a fixed period? Does each cycle take the same amount of time?
thank you. Problem does not persist when I connect Apple TV directly to television. Definitely seems to be a problem with signal passing through the receiver. Unfortunately, it is an intermittent problem, not constant. Receiver is Yamaha RX – V675 motivation to use the receiver is to take advantage of surroundsound system.

That receiver seems to have HDMI 1.4 ports, and doesn’t mention HDCP 2.2 support. For a 4K TV, you would be better off connecting as:
Apple TV →[HDMI]→ TV →[HDMI (e)ARC]→ receiver
with the TV set to audio passthrough.
Have you tried switching to another HDMI port on the RX-V675? There should be 5 of them you can choose from.
