Updating Payment Method On New Macbook

I bought a Mac as of a few days ago. When trying to add a credit card, it comes up with "there is an issue with your payment method, please update and try again". I understand that when there are previous purchases that have failed to come out of an account it tends to come up with this, however, I am unsure of what to do as this is a brand new mac and apple id and I have never made a payment.

I have tried to add a payment method online, on my phone and through other methods.

Please help :)

You might have an unpaid order. Learn how to pay an unpaid order.
