IOS 17.5.1 Problems

Phone was dandy until I did iOS 17.5.1 update last night. I just got off phone with Apple Technical Support, no solutions as of now. Here’s a list of problems now:

  1. Dropping WiFi A LOT throughout day, 5 min on, then off, repeat
  2. Turning off WiFi, still couldn’work online using 5G
  3. Text and email notifications not working at all, banners nor sound
  4. When WiFi was working during day, I’d send email to myself to check, emails sat in OutBox until I waited 5-10 min then I’d go back to OutBox and push it through a second time. It would then go through

Very concerned I’m not getting important incoming emails.

I haven’t even checked yet if my photos have been messed up like others are reporting (which 17.5.1 was supposed to fix from previous update that caused photo issues)

My internet company is not having issues. My phone provider Verizon isn’t having issues.

This must be iOS huge mistakes. Nothing is related to each other, the only common denominator is 17.5.1

Yep same here, although I’m also having touch screen issues.

I’m constantly having to reboot my phone so that it works again.

Similar issues here. But also lose connectivity to other apps (Denon AVR, HEOS) on the same wifi network. Also delays on receiving verification codes from two step verification options on apps. SMS messages sometimes don’t go through. All seem related to WIFI like everyone else. But if I turn the phone off wait a minute or two and turn it back on, seems to clear the problems temporarily.

I upgraded last night to 17.5.1 but now can’t turn IPad off. Tried Power+VolumeUp (my standard power-off) and screen goes blank but after about 20 seconds, it boots-up again, without option to power-down completely. Tried Volume, Volume, Power and same general thing (maybe different timing): it shows Apple logo and powers-up again, automatically. Tried Settings, General, Shut Down and, after a satisfying but deceptive shutter-style click, reveals that it’s still On. How do I get this to power-down? If it’s unplugged, I don’t want it to drain the battery. This is a pretty basic need.

So it seems that the problem is more nuanced than I originally thought. The problem described above (about turning iPad off) was encountered when iPad was plugged in. If I unplug the iPad, I can turn it off completely. However, to turn it back on you have to hold the Power button down for many seconds. This boot-up issue is only very slightly annoying. But the plugged-in Refuses-to-power-off problem is still annoying. I can’t see why Apple would design this into their product. Should shut down if it’s told to Shut Down, regardless of plug-in status.

Since IOS 17.5 and 17.5.1 updates Siri will no longer play my playlists. It’s not Apple Music, it’s my personal library. Every time I ask Siri to play or shuffle a playlist, the response is always the same “Looks like Apple Music can’t play that.” I’ve resorted to manually starting my music when I get in the car, and can’t change playlists while driving because of this problem.
