Transferring messages from Mac to iPhone

I reset my phone because one of my apps was not working even when I deleted and redownloaded it. Now the app works but I would like to get my messages back which are on my Mac. I see that it is possible by clicking the enable messages in iCloud button on my Mac , but do I need iCloud space to do this?

How can I recover deleted text messages back on my iPhone? I accidentally deleted messages that are important to me from my iPhone last night, that I want back on my phone. I have iCloud enabled, for sure, as I just realized the messages are still on my MacBook Air, including the ones that I accidentally deleted from my iPhone, and new messages that I've both sent and received today on my iPhone are showing up on my MacBook Air, so I really don't understand why the accidentally deleted messages are still on my laptop, but nonetheless here is my question. How I get the messages from my MacBook Air, back to my iPhone? I have a "sync now" option on my iPhone, but I'm afraid it I click that, that my MacBook Air will match my iPhone, when I want my iPhone to instead match my MacBook Air. Yes, you will need available space on iCloud to store and sync your messages across all devices that are signed on with the same Appel ID.
