Apple Pay not working on my Mac

Its on multiple sites, Apple, Belkin, Twitter, etc.

MacBook Air 15-inch, M3, 2024 MacOS 14.6 (23G80)

I am using the built in Touch ID thats on the Air. No keyboards plugged in.

I am trying to authenticate via the Mac as I do not have an iPad or iPhone.

Yep thats enabled as is the Allow sites to check for Apple Pay and Apple Card in Safari Privacy settings.

I tried disabling it then re-enabling it after a system reboot but no success. Touch ID works as I can use it for site logins and account changes.

I'm having the exact same issue that the original poster describes. It's especially frustrating because there is no actionable error message or even an error code that I can look up. The thumbprint just disappears, but only when trying to use Apple Pay on Safari. Touch ID works fine for logging into the Mac or registering accounts in Safari, which I did just now for this discussion board.

• Apple Pay works just fine on my phone
• I'm using the same Apple Pay and iCloud account on all my devices
• Touch ID works for every other use case on my Mac
• Touch ID for Safari on my Mac is unusable because the thumbprint icon disappears, forcing me to cancel

This results in Apple Pay being completely unusable on my Mac.

The difference is in the bottom part of the floating window, where the red circle animates away and "Processing" fades out. Instead of the blank space there should be the Touch ID sign, waiting for my fingerprint.

There's no error message.

That is what I meant when I said "it means something is wrong when not in Safe Mode". I have a second call with Apple tomorrow after the first didn't get very far. I have disabled all login applications and turned off all a 'allow in the background'.

Really hoping to not have to reinstall MacOS and Time Machine my settings.docs but I may have to.

I assume it's the fact the Apple Pay process does not complete and just stops with the blank screen.

It's the animation of my clicking on the Apple pay button with the thumbprint circle spinning and then abruptly stopping as everyone else here has said is the issue.

It's odd that my removing of all start at login items and extensions with the issue still persisting.

I am not placing my thumb on the reader, it doesn't get to the point to where it says 'Pay with Touch ID'. That's the point. I initiate Any Apple Pay button on any site i use (Apple.com to name one) and it does not work as intended.

I have:

Disabled ALL startup AND login applications/extension

Performed a full system wipe and re image.

Issue still persists...

It don't work on my Mac, I tried all the solutions suggested.

I guess I will have to write off Apple Pay on my Mac. Enter card numbers over and over again each time buy on line.

Pity it works great on my iPhone.

It's the 15'' MacBook Air running MacOS 15.1 (24B83) Sequoia so yes Touch ID is built in. Works for authenticating logins and whatnot just does not work with Apple Pay in Safari.

Here's to hoping its not a back and forth with the engineering team :)

I want to report that I am waiting to hear back from the Apple engineer next Wednesday.

This behavior me wonder if it's a bug. It'll work for about 10 minutes then this behavior will occur.

I have since tried going into safe mode on my MacBook and the behavior persists.

I have observed it also on my wife's MacBook pro (she's the only user) also running macos 15.1.

I came here trying to find out how to add credit cards to my new mini M4. I don't have touch ID and in my experience it does not work in my arrid very dry climate on my senior-aged very dry fingers. I'm glad I finally have face ID on my mobile devices. On prior devices I have managed to set up my finger but after a week or so it stops working and after re-setting up over and over I've simply given up as a hopeless pursuit. You mentioned several pages ago an iPhone setting "allow payments on mac", and maybe that solves my problem. I use my watch to login to my Mini so is that really all I need to have for authentication for online payments? My Mini is so new I have not had a chance to find out if it works.

I cannot even type on the flat Apple keyboard that gives no feedback (my old one does not have touch ID) and I have replaced it with one that works well for me. Is Apple's keyboard the *only* way to authenticate for the purpose of adding credit card info in the Mini's wallet? Are you aware of any discussion to implement Face ID on an Apple desktop? I presume you are not privy to Apple's plans but I'd be interested in reading discussions on this topic if I knew where to find them.

At any rate, thank you for the various comments you have made in this thread that allows me to stop my search for a different solution and move on to actually using my Mini :-)
