iOS 18 Disable Video Looping in Photos App?

I have been looking everywhere with no luck but thought I would ask here. Is there any way to disable the auto-looping of videos in the Photos app in iOS18? After upgrading now if I play a video to auto-repeats in an endless loop until you stop it where in the past it would stop at the end of the video.

I dislike this feature since I often show others videos on my phone and find it very annoying that the video instantaneously loops back to the beginning when it finishes playing. Sometimes this makes it hard to tell for sure if the video has finished or looped and it's always a nuisance if I need to talk to the person about the video once it finishes playing, especially if it happens to be a video that's quiet for a few seconds at the end and I've forgotten to close the Photos app.

Just talked to apple support and currently in 18 you can't disable it, but he suggested I leave a comment here to have them change it back in future versions.

Maybe if we all do that, something might get done in the next version.

There are thousands of features that are “forced on users”, starting with the very first iPhone, which had thousands of features never before seen on a cell phone. Virtually every function an iPhone has (or an Android phone, for that matter) was “forced on users”.

And the simple solution is to hit the pause button when it restarts.

This comment by JC3476 would fix the whole issue for me. Thanks. He said ..

Well, I hope JC3476 and you both told Apple you would like this. Telling other users in the user-to-user forum will not make it happen→Product Feedback - Apple

Didn’t get it with 18.0.1 … why???

Because Apple isn’t going to go to the expense and effort to fix a minor annoyance to a few users. It may be in a future update if thousands of users request it in https://apple.com/feedback, but just post in this user-to-user forum doesn’t move the needle. Have you provided feedback, for a start?

Yeah, I don't like that feature either. I went to Settings - Accessibility - clicked on Motion and deactivated the auto-playing features so at least they don't start without my consent, but still, the videos started playing again after finishing. Apple nerds- creators etc, need to understand that for these types of features, clients want to be in control. it should be an On-Off feature in case someone else wants the contrary, otherwise, it is annoying.

I commented and “me too’d” here but also left feedback at Feedback - iPhone - Apple . I suggest all else do same! (it’s a very quick form) I’m surprised that link is not accessible from this Community tab. I know it’s frustrating to some that we’re commenting here but another commenter said Apple customer service told them to so we are doing our best.

Also I fully empathize with people using strong terms like “hate this” because it’s very annoying and no one should be shamed for feeling frustration when a default feature is suddenly introduced with no option to disable. Life is not a repeating TikTok short, video beginnings and ends are good for many reasons (viewing, sharing, determining whether to edit/condense a video). This has actually caused me anxiety, I don’t view stuff this way and we’ve all spent too much time trying to fix.

Cheers.

I left a comment last week. Hope it helps.

I also left a comment asking them to make it possible to remove or hide the "Movie" option at the bottom of an album, as I accidentally started a movie of my photos, complete with music, in the middle of a meeting I was in last week.

My final act in this thread is to unsubscribe from comments, cause all I'm getting in my emails from this thread now are "me toos" about the video looping feature. I don't think the complaints are helping when they are posted here. Complain to Apple, as Judd3180 said.

Have a good day, all.

Well, it only came out today so I guess people have not been nudged about that update just yet. But thanks.

I have manually now done the update, and there is now a feature where you go into settings, go to the Photos app, scroll down and TURN OFF auto loop of videos. Videos will auto loop unless you do this manual fix yourself. Let’s hope the next update will have the default being back to just playing a video and stopping at the end, rather than the user having to do the manual fix themselves.
