Touch screen not working on my iPhone after iOS 18 update

I recently updated my iPhone 14 Pro Max to iOS 18, just a few hours after its release (10:30 pm, September 17). The software update seemed to be working fine overnight as I customized various settings. However, the next morning (September 18, approximately 9:02 am), my screen froze, and the touch functionality stopped working. Interestingly, all other features remained functional, including receiving calls, DMs, notifications, Find My alerts from my Apple watch.. etc. The volume buttons worked as usual, but I couldn't unlock my device or get the touch screen to respond.

I attempted to update as well as update&restore my iPhone through iTunes, even sacrificing my data, but still had no luck. Please help me resolve this issue; it's extremely frustrating and disappointing

I finally got fed up with mine and did the same as you. Went to an apple store, told them it was unresponsive after I'd hit the power/lock button. They restored my phone, still didn't work. Factory reset my phone, still didn't work (this was done on their computer too). They said they could replace the screen. It just doesn't seem like a hardware issue, since I was having problems since I upgraded to iOS 18. I went ahead and let them (thankfully I have AppleCare through Verizon so it was free) and surprisingly, it fixed the issue. I can now press the power button and it actually works. No more issues with the touch screen. So, for what it's worth, it might fix your issue. However, $370 is really steep to fix a touch screen.

My iPhone 14 Pro Max is doing it as well. It won't respond to touch for a while and can't really tell why it does it or when it does it. I've noticed when I hit the power button on the side to manually lock it, the phone becomes unresponsive to touch until I've left it in my pocket for a while. At first, I thought it was maybe the always on display, but when I turned that off, it made it way worse. Rebooting the phone doesn't always work either. If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck and looks like a duck, it's a duck. This is definitely a software issue. And an extremely frustrating one. I can't answer phone calls or look at my authenticator at certain times when I need it. Please fix this apple! Or if anyone else has the solution besides taking it to Apple or hard rebooting the phone! Thank you!

To avoid issues in the iPhone after update

  1. Taking off the back case and other accessories attached to the phone before the iOS update will reduce heat.
  2. Don't charge your phone at the time, before or after the iOS update; it will warm your phone. Give rest to your phone for 30 minutes before and after the iOS update.
  3. Don't update your iOS in mobile data in 5g or 4G; it will make your phone hot due to high amount of data Use WiFi for updates.
  4. Close all background apps before the iOS update.
  5. If your phone's data is very important, please backup your phone before updating; it is highly recommended.
  6. Prevention is better than cure so prevent your iphone as much you can.
