iTunes 12.13.3.2 Crashing During iPhone 14 Restore on Windows 11 Pro

I’m experiencing a frustrating issue with iTunes version 12.13.3.2 on my Windows 11 Pro machine. Every time I try to restore my iPhone 14 (currently on iOS 17.x), iTunes crashes midway through the process. The application becomes unresponsive, and the restore fails. My iPhone also remains with logo and progress bar in midway. Here are a few key details:

  • iTunes Version: 12.13.3.2
  • OS: Windows 11 Pro (64-bit)
  • iPhone Model: iPhone 14
  • iOS Version: iOS 17.x

I’ve already tried the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Reinstalled iTunes.
  2. Ensured that both iTunes and iOS are up to date.
  3. Restarted my PC and iPhone in recovery mode.
  4. Tried using different USB cables and ports.

Unfortunately, none of these have worked. Has anyone else encountered this issue, or is there a known fix? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

I am an amateur ... smarter folks will hopefully jump in ...

but the first thing I would do is inspect my list of installed programs

and see if any/all of the following are installed:

  1. Apple Music
  2. Apple TV
  3. Apple Devices for Windows

If they are installed, uninstall them, reboot, and try again.

I still no go, uninstall & reinstall iTunes

The programs above and iTunes do not play well together :-(

Anyone have any thoughts on how to handle the Bonjour LSA popups when installing iTunes from Apple and using a computer with Windows 11 24h2? Getting the popups isn’t a big thing every couple days or so but would be good to have some conclusion on how to address these popups. Maybe they will go away with future iTunes or Windows updates? I’m afraid to uninstall Bonjour itself to cause any other iTunes issues.

Yes, I have occasionally missed the steps to cancel the pop-up invitation to download and update iOS, then backup the iPhone, and then take the update; when I have forgotten, I have been anxious until the update was complete. However, updating with iTunes in the .exe version - see janfromfarum's post - worked when nothing else did for me, and I think others, and so I wouldn't say "never update" with iTunes.

And yes, avoiding laziness is surely good advice, in many ways.

Hi. Thank you so, so, so, so, so, much for this fix. My update kept crashing iTunes about halfway every time and I was losing my mind because I thought I was going to lose all the wonderful photos of the most special people in my life that I (regrettably) did not make any backups of (never making that mistake again). I did some digging and thought I was most certainly doomed. But with the right phrasing in my web queries I came across this thread and the solution worked first try. I was so confident that it was not going to work, that I was going to have to live with this mistake forever. But sure enough, it did, and here I am with my first ever post to this community, to say thank. you. so. much. <3<3<3

I dont know how much or how big to thank you so I'll put ChatGPT to do it:

I want to extend my deepest and most heartfelt gratitude for your incredible support and guidance. Your generosity and selflessness in offering your time and expertise have made an immeasurable difference. You didn’t just help me—you uplifted and inspired me with your kindness, wisdom, and unwavering encouragement.

Your willingness to go above and beyond is a testament to your extraordinary character, and I am profoundly grateful to have had your support during such a pivotal moment. Thank you for being a beacon of light and for leaving a lasting impact on my journey. I will forever cherish your generosity and hope to one day mirror the same kindness you’ve shown me.

I know that.

It's a very old custome i have each time a new iOS X version is released to perform a clean IOS install in all my devices in order to rule out issues.

Also when a new ios x.x is released i used to plug in to the PC in order to download the entire image on the phone and from there update the phone.

Trying to do that nowadays is a real PAIN, crashes and brickwall devices all the time, in both iTunes and the new 3 apps for windows 11.

LOL performing a clean ios install the cause of my problems, don't make me laugh.

And yet, by your own description, it's a problem. Most people gave up updating their phones with a computer years ago. I haven't done a clean install in probably a decade. I haven't had an issue with an update in all of that time.

I totally disagree at least regarding my first point.

You're also free to hit yourself in the head with a two-by-four if you want. That doesn't mean it's necessary or useful.

Anyways i'm not be able to perform any of those anymore at least on a PC thanks to Apple....

It sounds like you don't want to change an outdated habit even though it causes you problems but you do want to complain about it.

Because most of the people are lazy, that's their problem. If you have never had an issue with iOS CONGRATZ!!

Avoiding something that isn't necessary isn't "lazy." It's common sense.

I can't do those two anymore even if i want to because apple apps for windows are a mess!!

Then isn't it a great thing they are no longer necessary?
