iPhone 16 Pro Max - Touch Screen Sensitivity Issues

I seem to be having touch screen issues with my new iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Sometimes the key touches aren’t recognised & in general the sensitivity and response to typing just doesn’t seem to up to the usual standard and speed. I’ve swapped to my old iPhone 13PM and you can definitely tell/feel the difference.

I’ve tried a reboot, removing screen protectors & cases but nothing is seeming to help.

I did read on Reddit that this could be a software issue rather than hardware which is what I’m hoping the case may be!

i am having the same issue here. Received the phone on 20th. Thought it was the screen protector but when i took it out, the issue persisted.

Went to the Apple store (TRX Kuala Lumpur) and they ran a diagnostic and found nothing wrong with the hardware. Since it's a new phone, they had no idea what to do.

they ruled out it may probably a software issue and asked me to wait for the updates.

Same here on my 16 Pro Max. Certain areas seem mostly non-responsive, like the upper left corner which you really need to 'return to the previous screen'. Went to my local Apple Store. They tested my phone and it failed their touch diagnostics. They replaced it. Now two days later, the new one acts exactly the same as the original. I sure hope it's a software issue.

It is likely an iOS issue that will have to be addressed in a future update. When that update will come absolutely no one can tell you until Apple releases it. I personally haven’t had any issues so far on my 16 Pro Max but interestingly have had issues on my iPad Pro (M4) that has not been updated to iPadOS18 while the other same model iPad Pro that was updated to 18 hasn’t had any issues. We’re not yet at a week since the iPhone launch but a little over a week since iOS 18 released and surprisingly no clearly widespread issues seem to have occurred to cause at least one update to launch yet (iOS 17 had its first update 3 days after launch and the second one maybe a full week after for reference). Not to say that means it isn't an issue that exists for some or won’t be addressed in an update. Periodically check manually for an update on your iPhone….you might see it when it comes that way before you would know from here.

What a pain! I was having the same issue sometimes the screen was so unresponsive that I couldn't even swipe on the screen or type correctly. I tried a force restart, but that didn’t work at all. What finally worked was restoring the iPhone using the Mac from this guide , and now the screen sensitivity feels much better I hope this helps!

Definitely experiencing sensitivity issues.

Really didn’t have them without a screen protector but now after having installed different ones, the keyboard sensitivity is terrible.

Seems like a software issue since all the outlier keys including return and space bar are extremely laggy and force you to press way too hard while typing.

I did notice an improvement without the protector but this needs to be addressed by apple.

Night and day between my 13 pro max and 16 pro max.

Super annoying especially since I use my phone a lot for work.

Apple needs to run an update that fixes this issue and maybe add a sensitivity setting for the keyboard.

spending way too much money for this phone not to work exactly how they promised it would.

16 pro max in Desert Titanium 256GB here. I’m having the same issue. When I type I miss keys, when I like a video it takes a few taps to register, and swiping is inconsistent. Coming from a super responsive but dying 13 pro max, this is getting aggravating! I’ve called Apple support, they’ve run diagnostics and the hardware passed. I’m hoping this is software and we get an update before my return period is up.

I updated to 18.0.1 on my iPhone 16 Pro Max. The problem with screen responsiveness is not completely solved for me. Yes, it feels a little better, but it is far from the experience on the iPhone 13 Pro Max, on which everything is perfect with a protective glass. I changed the protective glass on the 16 Pro Max to different ones, the problem still remains. It is very disappointing that such an expensive phone has such a problem ... I am waiting for a solution to this problem in the future. (Why not add a function in the settings to increase screen sensitivity?)
