Apple CarPlay Not Working in iOS 18.0

I am using iPhone 13 and recently I have updated to iOS 18.0. Since that day, maps are showing blank on the car when I connect through the Apple CarPlay, and a message is displayed after a few minutes on the car screen stating the location information is not available. When I start the car immediately maps are turning to blank on the car display.

I had this same issue and have been trying to figure it out for a little over a week now. I was able to finally get mine fixed by turning off my ExpressVPN prior to plugging in the cable and it works now, but only if the VPN is turned off. So, if you have a separate VPN I suggest turning it off and giving it a try. I hope this can save people some headache!

I had the same issue as most everyone else posting here. I managed to fix my '23 Acura MDX and, now, everything is back to working properly.

  1. Go into your iPhones settings and turn off everything related to CarPlay and restart the iPhone.
  2. Do a factory reset on your car's screen.
  3. Go back to the iPhone and reactivate CarPlay.
  4. Back to the car's CarPlay set-up menu: When prompted, select Forget This Device.
  5. Then, re-sync your iPhone to CarPlay.

ITS THE CABLE! Needs to be a USB to USB-C cable that does DATA as well as recharges. NOT likely you have one lying around in a drawer with the other random cables. My IT guy figured it out. Sent me to BestBuy to get said cable (Insignia, 3.3 feet, $19.99). Plugged it in and it worked like a charm. On BOTH vehicles. So happy. Spread the word! ITS THE CABLE!

Reset your network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset

Network Settings

Restart your iPhone and restart CarPlay

(If you have a virtual private network, turn it off)

Rename you iPhone: Settings>General>About>Name

Try to reconnect with your CarPlay

If that doesn’t work, got to iPhone Settings>Siri &

Search and enable Listen for “hey Siri

Then, go back to Settings>General>CarPlay and make sure

your car is listed

If your car is listed, remove it and try to re-pair

If that doesn’t work, go to your iPhone:  Settings>General>CarPlay>Forget this

car

If that doesn’t work, back up your phone to your computer or

the Cloud and do a factory reset.

Good luck!!!!

I have great news. I found a solution. I am one of the ones who is experiencing the issue with a 2019 Chevy equinox on an iPhone 15 Pro Max since iOS 18 was installed. CarPlay works for a few seconds and then soon freezes and causes the infotainment system/head unit to go blank and reboot every single time.

Someone here mentioned that iOS 18 is very picky about cables with CarPlay and I didn’t believe that would work but it did. I used three different 1 meter apple OEM USB-C cables. Two that came with iPhones one that came with an iMac. No luck.

Then I tried a third-party 12 inch thunderbolt 3 cable. And CarPlay works perfectly. thunderbolt cables are made to much tighter tolerances than a standard USB-C cable and the fact that it’s shorter means that it must be getting the clean clear signal that it wants.

this is bizarre and I did not expect it to make a difference, but it did. I hope that works for some of you.

Hey everyone, I encountered an issue where only the wireless connection wasn’t working, while the cable connection was fine. After multiple attempts to reset and reconnect, I finally found a solution. Make sure the 'Private Wi-Fi Address' setting for the Wi-Fi connection with your car is turned OFF. After the iOS 18 update, in my case, Apple enabled this setting by default, which caused connectivity issues.

Good news! Someone here suggested a fix, and it works. I’m one of the users with a 2019 GM vehicle. Since updating to iOS 18 and using CarPlay on my iPhone 15 Pro Max, the head unit has been freezing, going blank, and rebooting every time.

I tried three different Apple OEM USB-C cables that came with iPhones and an iMac, but none of them worked.

Then, I tried a 12-inch third-party Thunderbolt 3 cable. These cables are made with tighter tolerances and lower impedances, which apparently improves the signal and allows everything to work normally. It seems that something between iOS 18 and some GM vehicles is making the CarPlay connection very cable sensitive
