Apple CarPlay Not Working in iOS 18.0

I am using iPhone 13 and recently I have updated to iOS 18.0. Since that day, maps are showing blank on the car when I connect through the Apple CarPlay, and a message is displayed after a few minutes on the car screen stating the location information is not available. When I start the car immediately maps are turning to blank on the car display.

After the ios 18 update, I was driving and mid-way through the drive my carplay disconnected and refused to connect again for days. My mom’s phone that is the same age and has ios 18 connected, but not mine so I knew it wasn’t the system or the cord. I went through all of the fixes on the apple side: privacy and siri enabling, etc. and nothing changed. BUT Here’s what actually worked: 1) under general > carplay, click on your car and make sure carplay is allowed 2) if #1 doesn’t work: delete your car from carplay in your phone in your car (scary but worth it), then delete all of the phones paired including yours in the carplay system on your car (mine was under connectivity >smartphone connectivity settings) 3) plug your phone back into your car. when i did this, suddenly i was offered the chance to reconnect. So, I want to uplift that working through the connectivity/ smartphone settings in your car is key. When I was just doing the apple side fixes nothing changed.

I have a Honda 2020 CRV. Nothing here worked or I missed it. I went out to ask a mechanic a question and they asked if I reset my infotainment system. Nope, didn't know I could. Press and hold the Volume Button for 10 seconds and it reset. After that it allowed me to always enable CarPlay and my phone and my daughter's phones showed up, connected and it worked. My big concern was maps for driving. I tested it to be sure maps worked and it did. I swear I have tennis elbow from holding my phone for days scrolling through so many sites! I hope this helps someone else.

I have a 2023 Hyundai Kona electric. I reset the screen by pressing the small hole next to the screen’s right-hand dial with a sharpened pencil. It’s to the right of the arrow that is to the right of the dial itself. It’s the only thing that worked.

My Content and Privacy Restrictions were off for some reason also. I went under Screen Time in settings and toggled that on.

I had this same problem and doing a "Reset to factory settings" on the car radio is what fixed it for me.

I have three GM vehicles (two 2017 Chevy Cruzes and a 2019 Chevy Traverse) that I had been using with my iPhone XR via CarPlay for years. When I upgraded to an iPhone16 Pro the Traverse and one of the Cruzes worked immediately, but the second Cruze wouldn't recognize the phone via CarPlay no matter what I did. After two days of fiddling I finally did "Reset to factory settings" after which it instantly recognized the new phone.

Good news somebody here posited a fix and it works. I am one of the users with a 2019 GM. Using an iPhone 15 Pro Max since updating to iOS 18 using CarPlay causes the head unit to freeze go blank and reboot every single time.

I tried three different Apple OEM USB-C cords that came with iPhones and an iMac. No success.

Then I tried a 12 inch third-party thunderbolt three cable. These cables are made to tight tolerances and lower impedances. Apparently that cleans up the signal and allows everything to work normally something between iOS 18, and some GM vehicles is causing it to be very sensitive to the cable.

hope this helps
