iPhone 16 pro battery draining fast

It feels like the 16 pro drains battery like crazy. Mine has gone from 95% to 81% in 38 minutes of light use and some picture taking. Phone also gets really hot when using the camera!

Anyone else experiencing this?

iPhone 16 Pro, iOS 18

I got my phone on Monday 30th September (delivered at nearly 9pm) and it took me until the following day to transfer everything from my 14 Pro Max, so I didn't start using it properly until Tuesday 1st October. For 2 days, I experienced this issue (excessive battery drain) and I became particularly annoyed because my phone was seemingly permanently attached to a charger and the battery percentage wasn't going up. As of last night I was considering sending it back as other posts on here suggested that Apple support was reporting no issues with the phones even though almost everyone was experiencing the same fault.

I did notice that there is a software update available - and although it is just 18.0 by all accounts this update is just for new iPhone 16's (all variances). It says it's a security update but once installed, my battery life is significantly better - to the extent that at nearly 11.30am, it's at 91% and I've used it for work calls; listening to an audio book for 30 minutes and playing some games since 6.30am when I took it off a normal overnight charge.

Maybe it was the update or maybe something else (although I didn't do or change anything else in my normal phone usage/routine) but the battery drain issue seems to have been resolved.

I recently faced heavy battery drainage on my new iPhone 16 Pro, and it was pretty concerning at first. However, after a few days, the issue resolved itself. Now, with about 50% battery usage, I’m getting around 5 hours and 30 minutes of backup, which is solid! So, if you're experiencing similar issues, don’t panic—just give it some time, and it might improve like mine did!

Just got a 16 pro this week before traveling and wish I had read the reviews. I just read 11 pages of comments about this battery issue and have tried all the suggestions and still draining so fast. I have no location services on and only my camera app open and after 4 hrs out taking some photos and videos it will be at 18% from 100%…. Just from pics. And it gets so hot that I had to turn it off twice just so it could cool down. I am only charging using Apple cords so I have no idea what’s up but it’s excruciating.

Oh I have been on those calls and chats where you sit for 2 hours first and getting the usual - restart your phone - - reinstall everything - and nothing works since it is the software bugs that is the cause of it.

Then you finally end up with a special advisor who usually wants you to wipe the whole phone, which leads to days of reinstalling bank apps, calling banks for security codes, adding all cards in the apple wallet, re adding drivers license etc.. All for nothing since the problem persists and will be fixed 6 months later in an iOS update.

I usually report all bugs to Apple and sadly have to live with things non functioning until they fix it. This battery issue should be fixed ASAP tho.

Are you expecting to have multiple days of battery life or are you needing to charge the battery more than once per day? The only graph I have seen you post is the daily usage which showed less than 75% battery usage for each day over the previous 10 except for 1 day. Maybe try the graph showing the last 24 hours of Battery Level to get an idea of the slope of the battery drain you are experiencing.

As for a charging routine, I would always recommend to charge your phone all night, every night. I use Optimized Charging so the phone only charges to 80% until just before I take it off the charger and it lasts all day. If you are not on a regular schedule you can use the Charge Limit, but of course you are already starting the day with a slightly depleted battery that will reduce your usage time.

The same is happening to me. My iPhone 16 Pro overheats and I can see the battery drain like a counter ticking down. Yesterday I went from full battery to 40% in just 4 hours. Today it’s gone from full to 66% in just over 2 hours.

The performance, battery life and overall stability is far worse than my iPhone 14 Pro and I’m beginning to consider swapping back to my old phone. I wonder if I got a dud device or if this is software issues?

My battery life has been slowly getting worse, my phone heated up and battery drained on the MagSafe charger while I was asleep and got hot enough that the phone quit charging and set an error message. Then today it drained from full charge to 18 percent with less than an hour and a half of screen on time…. I contacted support and will follow their suggestions to turn off location and background activity but I don’t have high hopes. Anyone else have other suggestions? My old iPhone didn’t have battery issues on iOS 18 before I upgraded and my wife’s iPhone on iOS 18 has been running fine. Starting to feel like I got a dud.

Same here, my phone is brand new just 3 days and the battery drains very fast. My 4 years old 11 Pro Max at its 77% capacity can hold the charge better than this one, it's so frustrating. I lock the phone, put it on airplane mode, disactivate location and all background updates, NO use at all and still the battery goes down!!

Hope they can fix it with a software update and it's not a faulty batch needing replacement, because honestly that would be so disappointing. I can't imagine with Apple Intelligence the battery will run out in a couple of hours. I expect from this new phone battery to last at least a day and a half with a light use :( and being a light user I've stretched it up to 24 hours on a weekend, but now that I'm at work and I need to use it it doesn't seem that it's going to last until the end of my working day.

I will also add my iPhone 16 pro runs very hot as others have said. Just driving with Apple Maps the other day the phone got so hot it went into Lock Screen because of overheating. This never happened on my iPhone 14 Pro. There is definitely an issue with these phones. Just charging or doing normal functions the phone gets very hot to the touch.

I traded in my 13 pro max to get 16 pro because 16 pro max is too much big for me. My 13 pro max battery health is 86% left, but I used all day, my battery still half until I got home. But 16 pro is used all after 4 hours something, I dont expect the battery can last long as my previous but now is too much. So disappointed, maybe traded in to buy the older model is better option. Tried everything to save the 16 pro battery but it doesn’t help a lot…
