Camera app crashing on my iPhone 16 Pro Max

I’m having the same problem on my 16Pro Max , brand new . I thought was just my phone . Apparently not seeing all these messages .

question is if the problem is so prevalent , where is the fix

iOS 18.1 seems to have fixed the problems on my iPhone 16 (not Pro), too. 😌

I’m having the same problem. Anytime I try to open the camera app the screen turns black and it closes. I’ve only had the phone for two weeks this is ridiculous

I hate my iPhone 16 pro it’s so hard to use I wish I would’ve kept my 12 - the iOS update sucks. I hate the camera roll and new camera functions are confusing. Touch screen is sensitive in bottom corners when you’re holding it normally it picks up on your palm in bottom corner instead of fingers where you’re trying to press. Also keeps playing sound once I lock my phone (on tiktok for example) even when I’m not playing a video or it was paused when I lock the phone.

I raised a bug report on this a week or so ago. Restarting the phone etc is a temporary fix. I’ve had numerous instances now of having to restart the phone in order to take a pic by which time the moment has gone. This is so obvious I’m struggling to see how this got through QA. Shame there’s no recognition of the issue yet (If I’ve missed it could someone share a link).

Having the same issue on iPhone 16. Camera regularly fails and crashes to a black screen, but audio/video warning led stays lit on the Dynamic Island then eventually disappears. A reboot will temporarily fix, but crashes again after a few photos.

I am also facing the exact issue. Camera app keeps crashing for both photos and videos. Works for sometime after phone restart and then goes back to crashing and while it works, it isn't as fast.

This is so irritating. I was at a wedding event and I missed so many shots because of this. Unacceptable! Especially at this huge price point!

In addition to the camera issue, the battery life is also inferior to my 13 pro max that I had before I switched to 16 pro max.

Also, intermittently it will show me that I have 1% battery left all of a sudden, then it will jump back to the correct battery %age.

i have 16pro max…So I’ve been having the same issue. Camera shuts off and battery changes percentage mid way from 38% to 1%. I went to apple they trouble shooted it and they swapped me out another phone. It seemed to work but today I went to take a picture and it crashed again. I spent over 3 hours in the store and this “new” phone is having the same issues!! What else can be done?!?

I just purchased the iPhone 16 ProMax and I have experienced the same issues: the camera crashed and the screen turned black, when trying to take a picture using the side button. So dissatisfied. I returned the phone today, and will not buy it again. I have the iPhone 15 ProMax, it works fine. So much excitement and show off for a phone that does not work, and almost $2000 for the 1 TB phone.

I have an iPhone 16 Pro and same problem. Curiously it seems to be happening when the phone is hot. It gets super slow and when the camera app crashes I hear the chime of the MagSafe a couple of seconds later. Like some sort of soft reboot.

also noticed that when it’s in that “hot state” I can’t wirelessly charge it. Like it doesn’t do anything to it.

I experience the same issue, Apple already changed my previous iPhone 16. (after 4 days of use) to a new iPhone 16 Pro , I experience he same issue with the second phone. IOS update 18.01 was not resolving the issue. Please solve the problem, otherwise I am forced to return this device too. Device doesn't worth too much without a working camera, it’s shameful Apple could sell such bad quality phones. Next time I will just simple report the company to Department of consumer Affairs . Sorry Apple but for $1200 you need to do better.

Update friends ... as guided by Apple support on call ... delete and clean install of iOS 18.0.1 through Mac done. Device restored from backup done yesterday. Issue reappeared today so this tedious process does not resolve the camera crashing issue on my iPhone 16 Pro Max 512 Gb. Anyone has a resolution. This needs an urgent fix from Apple as the camera app and even the Halide app is unusable.

After updating to 18.0.1 I thought my crashing might have been fixed. 18.0.1 does NOT fix this. Camera had been working faultlessly since the update, but again at a moment when I want to take a photo it crashes. App opens fine, press the shutter, screen goes black with a red dot in Dynamic Island and then the app crashes back to desktop. That then persists until I restart with vol up, down , power cycle. My opinion of apple is changing rapidly.

Well what is the point of a backup if the backup can fail or be corrupt in such a way as to cause such an issue. The last thing we should be requested to do is to wipe a device and set up from scratch. Sorry Apple, this is a totally unacceptable response to a problem affecting a lot of iPhone 16 devices across the range. It might prove a point, but is definitely not a solution.
