How do I fix heating issue on my iPhone 16 Pro?

Hey there! I just got the iPhone 16 Pro 1TB, and it’s overheating like crazy. It’s kinda scary, feels like it might explode in my hand while I’m typing this. I bought it less than 24 hours ago. Any tips? Also, what’s the return policy? Thanks

Some activities such as charging or a lot of computational activity (e.g., video), generate heat. Some warmth is to be anticipated.* "Keep your iPhone, the power adapter, and any wireless charger in a well-ventilated area when in use or charging."** Read this article about keeping your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch within acceptable operating temperatures - If your iPhone or iPad gets too hot or too cold - Apple Support

Changes in software such as upgrades may introduce new features which may add to power drain and heat generation. Check Settings > Battery to see if there are apps running that use a lot of power. If there are, decide if you can turn off a service such as Settings > General > Background app refresh when an app is in the background, or Settings > Privacy > Location Services. It could also be if you first got it then it is doing some setting up, requiring a lot of computation. Give it a day or two and see if there's the same problem.

I am a iPhone user since 5 years, never faced any issues on my iPhone 11 that's the reason I trusted and upgraded my phone.

Today I got my phone ungraded from iPhone 11 to iPhone 16pro and the first day itself I am facing this heating issue.

everytime I click few photos. So I updated it to the latest ios 18.1 still the same thing. It gets even more hotter when I try to use the slightest of AI feature like clean up or even talking to siri, it heats up like sun.

Ever since ios 17, they added some ai garbage to the phones that clearly cant handle it and iphones have been overheating. They know and refuse to fix the issue by getting rid of or at least making the ai optional. My partner has an 11 and i have a 15 pro. The second we try to download a game, its getting to hot to touch (SOME PEOPLE in the comments try to say its not overheating unless its turning off but the message is suppose to show up at 98* and if the average person runs 98* but their phone is to hot to touch then they are OBVIOUSLY touching something over that AND the phone fail safe isnt working)

I have just bought an iPhone 16pro and it gets seriously hot when just taking a few photos or texting messages

i I have never had this issue with an iPhone before

my wife had just bought a 12 month old iPhone pro 15 and it gets extremely hot too

it doesn’t come up with a messsge that it is overheating. It would be extremely hot I imagine for the warning

doesnt sound like teething problems to me

Seems to be a common fault

i am not comfortable with something that heats up so quickly and so hot

it feels dangerous

What do I do?

Sure. But has been over a month now… And whenever watch anything in Apple TV app when not connected to either Wi-Fi or a mobile data network (when not connected to the internet, basically), the phone overheats and Apple TV just crashes / quits after a few a minutes of viewing because it’s got so hot again.

Again, this doesn’t happen with the Netflix app or the Disney+ app… And am now running iOS 18.3 on an iPhone 16 Pro…

So why is this still happening only with Apple TV app when its not connected to the internet?

When you say “…then you can push it harder”… What do you mean by this exactly?

Thanks.

How are you using the Apple TV app if it's not connected to either Wifi or Cellular? And what "push it harder" means is when you do battery intensive things, like watch videos, use the camera, stream music, etc., you are making the battery work harder, which generates heat naturally.

Surely you didn’t just ask that… !? 😬

You download the movies to your iPhone and access them in the “Downloaded” section of the Apple TV app to play them back while the iPhone is not connected to the internet.

Regarding “pushing harder”… That still doesn’t explain why watching downloaded movies in either Netflix or Disney+ apps (while not connected to the internet) does NOT cause this iPhone 16 Pro to heat up at all… And why watching downloaded movies in the Apple TV app (while also not connected to the internet) causes this iPhone 16 Pro to overheat to the point the app closes/quits.

!?

P.S. All movies I download in Apple TV are “SD” (not HD) format, in Disney+ “Standard” format, and in Netflix (where there’s no option to choose quality of video) it’s whatever Netflix uses.

Look forward to hearing back. 🙏🏻☸️🪷📿
