iPhone 16 Pro not turning on

My wife’s iPhone 16 Pro is not turning on. Several times I have had to push the top volume, bottom volume and then hold the right power button until the Apple came on. And it took much longer than 10 seconds and instead of it coming on by itself, the Apple would show only after I held and released the power button. Did she get a lemon or are others having this problem? She gets a new phone every year so this is not an operator error.

This happened again to my wife's iPhone 16 Pro. She could never get it to start. I tried 3 or 4 times with the force restart and it again would not start. I then plugged it in as a last resort, did the force restart a few time and finally it started. The battery was at 100%. It took quite a long time holding the start button after the volume up and down buttons for it to finally start. I will do a force restart on my iPhone occasionally and it never takes that long. She has had almost every iPhone since the 3G, so this is definitely not operator error.

I am responding here in hopes that it gets pushed to the top of iPhone questions in hopes that others may either respond that they too are having this issue and what the resolution is.

Bought two new iPhone 16 Plus. Did update to iOS 18.0.1. When one phone was turned off and charged overnight, it would not turn on this morning. So far I am trying the force restart multiple times and I have plugged it into a different charger no beeps. Also I plugged it into my MacBook and no beep and not showing up on Finder. This is bad. This has never happened with multiple iPhones over the last several years. Phone $1000 and it does not work after a few days. Ugh. Afraid to shut down the other phone and fear that it will also not be able to be turned down.

I'm on the iPhone 16 pro max, and it's out right now. I am using my MacBook to write this message lol. It's currently on a black screen I tried pressing all the buttons and nothing is working. I am just leaving it plugged in for right now, hoping Apple will fix this issue because I got a pretty packed day and I need my phone... sigh apple what are you guys doing?!

Same here.

I plugged it in and powered it down to charge last night at 45% of battery.

This morning, it is very hard to power it back on. I followed the procedure described by op and even plugged it to

my MBP b/c I was afraid of a battery drain last night.

After 10 minutes, it is finally turned on and showing a full charge.

I have been an iPhone user since iPhone 4 and have never seen anything like this.

This just happened to me moments before posting this reply. My phone was charging at 96%, and I decided to turn it off to reach 100% faster. After about 10 minutes, I tried turning it back on, but it wouldn’t start. After several unsuccessful attempts, I Googled to see if others were experiencing the same issue, which led me to this thread. I then tried the force restart method — pressing the volume up, volume down, and power button — and finally, the Apple logo appeared, and the phone turned on w/ a 100%. I hope we can find a solution for this, as I’ve owned iPhones since way back when and have never encountered this issue before with other models.

Iphone 16 pro max here. So my phone doesn't charge with the Usb-C. It only charges wirelessly. As soon as I plug in the Usb C cable it starts to connect and disconnect again and again. I did not have the wireless charger with me at the time so my battery drained and the phone powered off. Now I just cant get it to turn back on! Its super frustrating. It has been charging wirelessly for the past 3 hours. I have tried the volume buttons thing hundreds of times. Not a beep. Disappointing.

Continued to check out every possibility such as a failed screen. Tried ringing and Find My. Tried several times with different chargers and tried tapping on the screen. And I tried a normal start several times holding the button for a long time then I tried several force starts as per Apple Support (quick press, volume up, quick press, volume down, and then pressing start for a long time). Repeated regular starts and force starts about 20 times over a period of four hours. Gave up then started a help ticket at T-Mobile. An hour later I tried the regular starts and force starts again in desperation. Golly gee the Apple logo came on! I had installed an update to 18.0.1 the day before then the phone was shut off for the evening. We have decided to not turn off this phone nor a second iPhone 16 until we get word that this hardware defect/ software bug has been fixed. Fortunately, I am retired so I feel really sorry if this happens to any employed person because it is a huge waste of time.
