iPhone 16 Pro not turning on

My wife’s iPhone 16 Pro is not turning on. Several times I have had to push the top volume, bottom volume and then hold the right power button until the Apple came on. And it took much longer than 10 seconds and instead of it coming on by itself, the Apple would show only after I held and released the power button. Did she get a lemon or are others having this problem? She gets a new phone every year so this is not an operator error.

This happened again to my wife's iPhone 16 Pro. She could never get it to start. I tried 3 or 4 times with the force restart and it again would not start. I then plugged it in as a last resort, did the force restart a few time and finally it started. The battery was at 100%. It took quite a long time holding the start button after the volume up and down buttons for it to finally start. I will do a force restart on my iPhone occasionally and it never takes that long. She has had almost every iPhone since the 3G, so this is definitely not operator error.

I am responding here in hopes that it gets pushed to the top of iPhone questions in hopes that others may either respond that they too are having this issue and what the resolution is.

Bought two new iPhone 16 Plus. Did update to iOS 18.0.1. When one phone was turned off and charged overnight, it would not turn on this morning. So far I am trying the force restart multiple times and I have plugged it into a different charger no beeps. Also I plugged it into my MacBook and no beep and not showing up on Finder. This is bad. This has never happened with multiple iPhones over the last several years. Phone $1000 and it does not work after a few days. Ugh. Afraid to shut down the other phone and fear that it will also not be able to be turned down.

I'm on the iPhone 16 pro max, and it's out right now. I am using my MacBook to write this message lol. It's currently on a black screen I tried pressing all the buttons and nothing is working. I am just leaving it plugged in for right now, hoping Apple will fix this issue because I got a pretty packed day and I need my phone... sigh apple what are you guys doing?!

So it has been a while since my wife's iPhone 16 pro has needed the forced reset, so I thought that maybe IOS 18.0.1 or 18.1 had fixed the issue. But that was until yesterday when once again it took over 30 tries to force restart and it finally worked when instead of it not being connected to anything that I plugged it into my iMac M1 and was able to get it to force restart after 3 times. Then today, the same thing happened. Normally my wife will unplug it and try to start it. When all fails, she brings it to me. So today we went to the Apple Store without an appointment. They gave us an appointment for about an hour later. After running several diagnostics that did not fail, we again discussed how and when it fails. The common denominator is that when it fails to start, it has been on optimum charge all night and is at 100% when we finally get it to force restart. Apple went into a long dissertation about why the phone should not be charged all night and that it should be LEFT ON, NOT OFF. They also turned off optimize charging to so that it would charge faster when needed to be charged. We will give this a try, but on the one hand, I think this is just fast talking, I have not had the issue with my iPhone 16 Pro received the same day, but I also do not turn my phone off but maybe every week or so and then turn it back on. Unfortunately I do not believe that Apple reads these posts, but if there is any merit to what we were told at the Apple Store, then they should certainly put out a bulletin on how iPhone settings should be, and whether or not it is recommended to be turned off at night. This is just my 2 cents, but since I started this thread, maybe it is worth an extra 5 cents :+)

This just happened to me moments before posting this reply. My phone was charging at 96%, and I decided to turn it off to reach 100% faster. After about 10 minutes, I tried turning it back on, but it wouldn’t start. After several unsuccessful attempts, I Googled to see if others were experiencing the same issue, which led me to this thread. I then tried the force restart method — pressing the volume up, volume down, and power button — and finally, the Apple logo appeared, and the phone turned on w/ a 100%. I hope we can find a solution for this, as I’ve owned iPhones since way back when and have never encountered this issue before with other models.

Iphone 16 pro max here. So my phone doesn't charge with the Usb-C. It only charges wirelessly. As soon as I plug in the Usb C cable it starts to connect and disconnect again and again. I did not have the wireless charger with me at the time so my battery drained and the phone powered off. Now I just cant get it to turn back on! Its super frustrating. It has been charging wirelessly for the past 3 hours. I have tried the volume buttons thing hundreds of times. Not a beep. Disappointing.

Same here.

I plugged it in and powered it down to charge last night at 45% of battery.

This morning, it is very hard to power it back on. I followed the procedure described by op and even plugged it to

my MBP b/c I was afraid of a battery drain last night.

After 10 minutes, it is finally turned on and showing a full charge.

I have been an iPhone user since iPhone 4 and have never seen anything like this.

I own an iPhone 16 Pro running 18.0.1 and have the same problem everyone mentions here. Every night, when going to bed, I plug my phone in and turn it off. The phone not turning on has happened twice, so it's inconsistent when it doesn't want to turn on. The up, down, and on always seem to work. It turns on with 100% battery, meaning it successfully charged overnight. Doing a reset to turn on a brand-new phone implies something is wrong. I don't know if it is hardware or software. Hopefully, Apple acknowledge and address the issue soon.
