iPhone 16 Pro not turning on

My wife’s iPhone 16 Pro is not turning on. Several times I have had to push the top volume, bottom volume and then hold the right power button until the Apple came on. And it took much longer than 10 seconds and instead of it coming on by itself, the Apple would show only after I held and released the power button. Did she get a lemon or are others having this problem? She gets a new phone every year so this is not an operator error.

Bought two new iPhone 16 Plus. Did update to iOS 18.0.1. When one phone was turned off and charged overnight, it would not turn on this morning. So far I am trying the force restart multiple times and I have plugged it into a different charger no beeps. Also I plugged it into my MacBook and no beep and not showing up on Finder. This is bad. This has never happened with multiple iPhones over the last several years. Phone $1000 and it does not work after a few days. Ugh. Afraid to shut down the other phone and fear that it will also not be able to be turned down.

After I spent over four hours, trying the forced reboot process, the iPhone 16+ finally turned on. I am afraid to turn it off. I charge it with the standard plug. I read that Apple suggested lowering the charge percentage, so I changed it to an 85% limit. However after a few days, it charged to 100% so I went online to Apple support after I had rechecked my settings. After a while, they replied that the iPhone 16’s every so often ignore your lower setting for some kind of a battery life purpose. I advised them that defeats the whole point of their recommendation to lower the battery percentage in order to prevent the inability to turn on after being shut down. I did do an update to iOS 18.1 on both phones And I held my breath, but they rebooted OK. So where we stand is no real explanation and no real solution. It is just a matter of time. I expect the phones to not be able to boot up. I’ve been using iPhones since model 11 and I have never experienced a failure before.

So my iPhone had this issue when I first got it. I was directed to set charging to 80% and use only Apple certified OEM chargers. It worked fine until upgrading to 18.1.1 2 days ago. Went back into lockdown mode and took 45 minutes of attempts on reset. Finally it powered up when I did a reset start on the mag charger. Upon contacting Apple and being moved up to senior level advisor they had me keep charging max at 80% and take screenshots of charging screens before and after as well as confirm times of shutdown and turn on. They are having me forward the details to them for 3 days and engineers at Apple are involved. While the phone does restart normally the past 2 days it is charging to 100% (even though set to 80%) and the charging history is not updating….it still only says the phone was last charged 4 days ago and prior to the 18.1.1 update. It does not show any charging history since then - which is not the case. I would say that Apple knows they have a charging/software/firmware issue and is trying to get it fixed without replacing a lot of hardware. Since this is widespread with the iPhone 16 and not other models I would say there must be a hardware issue….and not on all iPhone 16s but on a growing number. They are to contact me again tomorrow to continue the research. I will update as I learn more!

I have a brand new iPhone 16 Pro and am having the same problem as everyone. I am currently stuck on the 'hello' screen and the phone is quite hot. This is most disappointing for a phone that costs close to $2000. I have never had problems with any of my iPhones in the past. Hopefully this issue will be addressed. As it stands right now, I have a phone that I can't use. Frustrating to say the least.

I have used the Apple site to contact to report problems, but it says that they will not reply unless they have a specific reason to contact you. Additionally, I saw an article on MacWorld about an issue with iMac M1 screen issues that they called a time bomb waiting to happen. As an owner of an iMac M1, I contacted the editor on 11/26 commenting that I have not had this issue yet ( hopefully I won't since the warranty is long gone ) but since he wrote an article about a problem, that maybe he should look into this iPhone 16 start up issue. I sent a link to this discussion, but to date, I did not receive a reply from the MacWorld editor or have I seen anything on the MacWorld site about our startup issue.

You probably haven't seen ANY articles about this issue on iPhone, because out of the millions upon millions upon millions of iPhone 16 Pro's in the hands of users, the numbers of people who may be having an issue are infinitesimally small. That doesn't mean you or others aren't having an issue. But the vast majority of iPhone 16 Pro owners are out there enjoying their phones, without issue and not posting on a forum.

Anyone who is having an issue like this, needs to schedule an appointment at their Apple Store Genius Bar.

I am not one who wants to start arguments on this board, but here is my analysis of your reply.

Yes, there are millions and millions of iPhone 16 users who may not have this problem. Like me ( since it is my wife who has had the issue ) they do not turn their phone off at night. Secondly, the average iPhone user is not that savvy and does not even know about the Apple Support Community, nor do they read blogs or websites that specialize in iPhone or Apple. As for scheduling an appointment at the Apple Store, we did go there and they ran a bunch of tests that showed that there was nothing wrong. Then their recommendation is below.

Here is what Apple Store Genius Bar told us which to me is not an acceptable answer. It would be if they would put everything in writing, or if we had had this problem with any of our iPhones dating back to the 3Gs up to the iPhone 16 Pro. There is only 1 Apple Store in my area and the manager of the genius bar was who we dealt with. Obviously this is very disappointing and my wife has reluctantly resorted to #1

1- Do not turn the phone off at night

2- Do not leave it charging all night.

3- Either set optimizing charging to 80%, or turn off optimized charging but unplug it at night

1- Not turning it off at night obviously eliminates the problem since you do not have to turn it on.

2- Do not leave it charging at night keeps the phone from auto backing up

3- Has not been tried as a 100% charge is wanted. Since we get a new iPhone every year, long term battery health is not important to us.

There is simply no need to turn the phone off at night. I don't agree with whoever suggested you shouldn't charge the phone all night, EVERY night. It's impossible to overcharge an iPhone. And iPhone is specifically designed, with Optimized Charging enabled to charge up to a certain level, then stop charging, until it knows you will typically start using your phone, where it will charge it fully to be ready for a days use. The advice to NOT charge it all night goes completely against how Apple designed the phone to be charged. And personally, I have NEVER powered my phone off at night, but I do keep my phone on it's MagSafe charger all night, EVERY night. Battery Health has NEVER suffered from this as it is how Apple designed the charging system to work in the first place.

Tech support agents never do nothing to give us a real fix. All they know is the reset mantra that never sorts out things.
I’m having issues with Spoken content and the Siri neural engine text to speech in my iPhone 11 after reinstalling iOS 18, I spoke with 3 agents and absolutely none of them were willing to help me. I speak Spanish as my native language and the voices that i’m having issues with are in Spanish, so the agent told me that nobody from the accessibility support speak Spanish, so he refuced to continue helping me.
If there are millions of iPhones around the world, I’m sure that a vast majority of them are having an issue, doesn’t matter if it’s hardware or software, and Apple never does nothing to correct them unfortunately

You last sentence is a guess at best and at worst, not a good one. Please don't make claims you can't backup with any tangible evidence. Sure, you may be having an issue, but that doesn't mean the vast majority of users are also have an issue. I've had no issues on either our 16 Pro or 16 Pro Max. I know several people with 16 Pro models and none of them are having issues.

I have a new iphone 16 pro max it would not start in the morning, after i turned it off the night before, finally got it going by plugging it into the computer. So I took it to Apple after having it for a month, they turned it off in store and could not restart it, so they replaced it with a new one, which was a real bore as we live a long way from a store, and the whole experiece takes a while.

Then today guess what its happened again. Nightmare. An expensive nightmare as these phones aren't cheap. This time i cant get it to work at all, any ideas?

Same here. I bought an iPhone 16 Pro 256GB off the Apple Website on Nov 28, 2024. This morning Dec 11, it would not power up after charging all night. As I placed it on the wireless charger last night I turned it off while charging because I did not want it on all night. In the morning it would not power up.. I placed it again on the wireless charger and it would not turn on. I tried all the power up sequences with the volume control key plays ..but no luck. I left it with the USB cable and charger plugged in and decided to enter my story on this discussion board ..but two factor identification was needed. For some reason or other when I made the two factor identification request the iPhone suddenly came to life displaying my two factor identification number. I am almost afraid to power it down again.
