iPhone 16 Pro Max not charging wirelessly in my 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Am experiencing significant issues when using the wireless charging pad in my 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee with my iPhone 16 Pro Max. Will briefly charge with the blue light, then after 30 seconds to perhaps a minute, it goes flashing red. This did not happen with my previous iPhone 11 Pro Max. I suspect the raised lip around the camera is the problem, as the phone can never lie completely flat against the charging pad. Anyone else experiencing this sort of issue? Thanks!

I don’t think it’s the raised edge. I have an Otterbox Commuter case for iPhone 16. With the inner part of the case with the raised edge, the phone charges in my 2022 Prius. With the outer hard case on, which seems to include the MagSafe part, the phone won’t charge on the wireless charger. The charger’s orange light blinks indicating that either a foreign substance is between the portable device and the charge area [like the MagSafe magnet area, on the hard case, I think] or the portable device is out of sync due to the device being shifted from its position [which didn’t happen, because it hadn’t moved]. I’m going to return Otterbox’s MagSafe case and buy one without MagSafe. Hopefully that works!

Hi everyone,

same for me in the wireless charging pad of my BMW 3 series. Just bought an iPhone 16 Pro as upgrade from 12 Pro. Every single iPhone I've had so far has been charging properly and since I have the 16 Pro it doesn't work anymore.

Without a protecting case it charges properly, but as soon as you put a case it doesn't work anymore (and I've spent so far 150$ on 2 different cases, I even filed the objectives protection bump on one of them to bring the phone closer to the pad)... this is not ok.

It must be the raised objectives, as without a case, when charging, if you raise your phone by 1 mm it stops charging... so with a likely 1 mm thick case + some minor distance added by the objectives protection bump it's apparently sufficient to prevent the phone from charging.

By the way, charging works though with the case on my nightstand wireless charger...

Really really annoying for the car as it is really practical and very well integrated in my BMW...

Isn't there anything on software side that Apple could do to make the coils more sensitive or anything in that direction?

Wireless Charging issue. I have a couple of then one is upright at an angle and another is flat. I found the flat ones wouldn't work if the case you have on it extends past the camera lense too far causing it to not fully touch the surface... same with the upright charger. What I have found that now works finally is a magsafe case with a magsafe round charger. I have purchased now 3 different cases to finally get this to work... plus a new wireless charger, the phone does have a magnetic back, but the one full cover case I had purchased had a clear back, and it would not stick to the round charger sideways in order to have standby on, clock and date, had to buy one that had a magcase back in order for it to stay.

Hi all, I had the same exact issue, both with my wireless charger by my desk, and in my Tesla.

I followed the video bellow and it seems to have fixed it, but I haven't had chance to test in my car yet though.

FYI, I had to do the turn off sequence a few times for it to finally work consistently. I made sure to do it with my case off, then once it was charging as expected, after taking it on and off the charger to test it re-engages, I put the case back on, and it still works with it on too.

I've only just done this myself today, so I'm not sure if it will last, but wanted to share in case its helpful to you all.

Same. I have multiple wireless charging stands, one at home and a few at different work locations. My iPhone XS worked fine with all of them. My new iPhone 16 will not fully charge overnight on any of them. (The new 16 Pro and the XS were both on 18.4.1.) It is very frustrating to start the day with 60% charge on a new phone! I also saw the behavior of the phone charging for a short time when initially placed on the cradle and then quietly stopping. I thought it might be the camera bump, so I tried adding a spacer for the phone to sit on that lifts it just enough for the camera bump to clear the top of the cradle. With that, the back of the Phone lies flat against the cradle. This seems to work better -- it will not stop charging after the first minute or so, and seems to work for hours, but my phone will still not be fully charged in the morning. Given the cost of the phone and the cost of the charging accessories, this is very disappointing. I'm all for innovation, but when Apple slips on basic execution details like this all the innovation in the world doesn't make the customer any happier.

This is definitely NOT related to the camera bump. I'm comparing a 15pro with a 16pro on the dual wireless pad of a BYD car. Both have iOS 18.2. At the same time it took a 15 pro to go from 48% to 80%, the 16 Pro managed to charge by only +4%. These two phones have a very similar form factor so it's definitely not the camera bump's fault.

I’m going to try affixing toothpicks to the pad to offset the camera lip. That may address the phone not being parallel to the charge pad. With a case, the phone per se is never in contact with the pad anyway, so this might help and still work. Sad though that Apple missed this. Maybe they can tool up a thicker case to remove the lip.

I'm having the same issue after upgrading to the iphone 16 Pro, I can no longer charge it on the wireless pad in my 2024 VW Golf, same issue, raised camera is way too thick and I might have to return and keep my older device until the next gen for a thinner camera bump, it's ridiculously big stopping me from wirelessly charging with anything that is not a puc.

Same issue for me. I buy I nice full body case for my new iphone 16 pro, this is the second case now that will not charge on wireless chargers I have, which I have taken the case off and set it on an upright charger worked right away, soon as the case is on it will not charge. Now have a clear back but because the camera protector sticks way out it will not charge... not happy with this at all, its a small thing, but now have to plug in always, I am not sure what to do, would a round wireless puck size charger work?
